Interesting! Was this prototype just recently discovered?

Yep, looks like they thought it was too easy in spots. Is that standard Wizzrobe change present in every room with that specific Wizzrobe formation? Maybe they changed the formation itself, if so.

Odd how there was a single false wall in the prototype first quest, and also how the second quest's letter dungeons were in a different order, but still not Z-E-L-D-A.

Huh... I'd always heard Miyahon was a mistranslation, but it's correct in the prototype? Neat. Really nice find here.

It would have if it was anywhere near finished. The thing doesn't even have the story roll in yet.

By "it" I mean the whole title screen thing.

Don't forget that the main dungeon theme isn't there, either.

About how unplayable are the second quest dungeons? Are they just a random mish-mash of random, or how do they look? I haven't gotten that far in it yet.

They're random room layouts with no objects in them. And by random, I mean it's possible to go through a door that leads to a room wtih no exits. For the most part, the dungeon layouts don't follow the maps shown on the page.

I still want to see a full map of the second quest's dungeons (even if they do mostly just bend into each other), just for completion's sake.

There are two "big maps" in the game (dungeons 1-7 on one, 8-9 on the other, I think? Maybe 1-6/7-9), and since dungeons are kind of broken it'd be easy to just point where the entrances are and leave it at that.

It's optional, since it's broken, but... yeah

Well, I wouldn't say it's completely useless. You can still use it to bait some enemies in the overworld. Granted, hardly anybody actually uses it for that purpose.

I think what amazes me most about this prototype is that the testers' old save files still exist. It gives it a neat personal touch.

Any idea what the top two names translate to?

Those might not be developer's files; this isn't straight from Nintendo, so it's impossible to say if someone else played it.

Of course, finding some evidence would make a link more probable, but outside of the owners of these saves outright saying whose they are, you're probably out of luck.

I do find the fact that the top one is on the second quest kind of odd, though, but probably nothing major.

Did a little bit of research. In the credits for ALttP, Kazuaki Morita is credited as object programmer (video). He seems to have worked on practically every other Zelda game as well.

"Kazuaki M." is kinda like "kazuko+m", right? Or am I just jumping to conclusions again?
