What it says on the tin.

Does this mean Intel processors will now automatically block you from sites McAfee thinks are bad?

This whole merger is kind of baffling to me, to be honest... I mean, maybe they just want to diversify their businesses...

Maybe putting McAfee on its own processor is the only way to stop it from making one's computer unusable?

Seems a bit odd that Intel wants to jump into the security market since they have not been active anywhere in that area...

We will see soon how that is going to turn out, I guess.

What, they weren't able to buy Symantec?

Maybe they should buy a graphics card company that would at least help them turn out better (but still cheap ) integrated graphics hardware. Or at least write better drivers that don't break a few things, like OpenGL support. (Sorry, didn't mean to break into a rant. Honest.)

Paulguy's Post configuration
Aren't the OpenGL <=1.5 issues related to Windows 7 translating them to Direct3D? I know ATI and nvidia provide their own implementations, but Intel possibly doesn't at all. Integrated video always has shitty OpenGL support but decent Direct3D support. I wonder why this is?

I'm not sure - I haven't tried Win7, yet. I've only had the fun of trying to work with it under Vista, including such fun 'problems' as having to rename an OpenGL screensaver's extension from .scr to .SCR just so the system wouldn't block it from running, if I remember everything correctly. And even then, it still wouldn't run entirely correctly.

I remember this, ugh. Renaming one from scr to sCr for me on XP when I still ran on a GMA945 gave a giant framerate boost.

Of course, it's not really relevant since I got a new card, but it's still puzzling as to why that would happen.

Intel's OpenGL support is so buggy it crashes all the time.

So they crippled OpenGL screensaver support.

Except they used case-sensitive extension checks so you can get around it by changing the extension to .sCr or something.

Yeah. I always wondered if Intel couldn't have handled that much, much better.

Maybe they locked it as a work-in-progress, intending to unlock it, someday, if the drivers actually worked... though they never seemed to ever do anything with it, ever again. Are they still doing it?
