I once had an IRC client that would actually replace "u" as its own word with "you" (similarly r/are). I discovered it when for some reason I was typing something with spaces between each letter.

The only times I saw auto-correct forced on 'u' and 'r' and etc. was when it was the IRC server or a forum word filter that did it.

Sadly that only made a lot of sentences less understandable since it only affected single-letter words. So you'd get very garbled messes.

Not like that. Their sentences were just crap anyway. Phonetic spelling everywhere and then lazy typing. Extreme lack of grammatical skills also.

And I don't see why people t y p e l i k e t h i s. Seems really pointless to me.

I don't get it.

My phone autocorrects colon and semicolon position like "x :" -> "x:". This is annoying because 99% of the time I'm typing a smilie face and have to go back and fix it.

(See also: The clbuttic mistake of "tidying" the language of posts. Especially bad for people from Svaginahorpe or Lighvaginaer. Some also censor "script" as an attempt to prevent XSS, which makes talking about movie scripts, game scripting etc difficult...)
