Have you ever made up any kind of fan character for any video game, anime, book, or other sort of entertainment series? If so, what was he or she like?

I'm admittedly a really big dork with this, but I'll share my stuff later, since I would be talking in this thread more than the next two hundred posters.

I tend to think everyone has.

I can't imagine someone being a fan of something, and not imagining how would a character of their own work. Even if only to analize the world better.

Perhaps that isn't the case and some people just aren't creative, or maybe I am creativity in a bottle. I guess some people don't like fanfiction and such and they might indeed never ever have. But I just find it strange.

I did it once when someone wanted me to play some silly Naruto RP, I felt dirty ever since.

I afterwards pulled the character out from there and tweaked her up to work as one of my usual characters. I greatly dislike fan-fiction and the like and never again do I want to do something like that.

I have my own worlds to work with so to say.

Yep, back when I did really bad King's Quest fanfic, I invented an obnoxious narrator character who was related to the Royal Family of Daventry and was planned to eventually assume some of the hero's duties. Thankfully, the fanfic series was scrapped before I got that far.

For a very brief period I wrote bad Chrono Trigger fanfic... my original characters there tended to be new antagonists though, rather than protagonists- the thought was to come up with new villains to challenge the actual cast of the game. But as I said, it was pretty bad.

Nowadays, I more focus on original universes...

Yep, I've moved toward original universes as well. I think fanfic is kind of a larval stage for aspiring writers

Not that all fanfic is bad, of course. Some fanfics I've read have been quite good, actually.

It has nothing to do with fanfics nor anything. You could just wonder about random NPC #234 and think about its relatives and you are already making up characters.

I mean, just playing any RPG with a custom character already counts if you care minimally about the game's story.

Disgaea 2 I did this a lot with the random characters I created, pretending they had personalities and stories while playing the game.

I fondly remember a few Digimon RPs I've been part of, as well as the characters I made up, human and Digimon alike. Well, technically, most things in those RPs were made up by the players, besides the basic premise "real world, Digital World, some monsters bent on taking over both" and the pre-existing kinds of Digimon. We did tend to integrate some (at the time) underused aspects of the franchise, tho, like the Demon Lords.

Anyway, there's two human characters I've played in those 4 or so RPs, named Tanashi Ookuwa and Yuuto Mitsuda; both more or less author surrogates of mine, besides having a bit more confidence than I have - not exactly hot-headed leader types, but still capable of nudging the group into the right direction or something. I had many notes, descriptions, etc. about them, their Digimon/Spirits and the like, but I can't seem to find them offhand - it's been 5 or so years, tho, so... yeah. Maybe I'll be able to find some of that stuff on backup CDs or something...
