Something on the computer's sending out spam, and it's at the point where I'm about to lose my internet. This thing's able to send out, like, 590 messages one after another, and my mom's been scanning the computer with everything she has to no avail...I don't know.

If it's not fixed soon...****.

I had one (1) message in Discord deleted and proceeded to make a huge, huge mess about how it was a violation of free speech and how moderators are supposed to be spam janitors and nobody should have the right to tell me not to talk about school shootings

Well, first, disconnect it from the Internet (obviously) until you get it fixed. Then if you can't run an antivirus and antispyware scan from within the OS, put the hard drive in another computer and do it there. Or just format and reinstall, it's the safest way.

You're telling this to people 'asking' what to do? Most people who do that probably don't know what this is or have difficulty doing it.

ZOOP FORMAT okay wut

...

o shith

If you're still working on the internet and want to check it with something because you DON'T have a decent or up-to-date anti-virus, start here. I'd also wonder what kind of browser, anti-virus or firewall you have, if any.

Browser = Mozilla Firefox

Supposedly helpful programs...(3 known as active so far...)
AVG E-mail Scanner
Webroot Spy Sweeper
avast! On-Access Scanner

That's what's open now, if it helps...

I would hope if he doesn't know what it means he'd look it up first. And of course any good format utility will warn you before proceeding.

Less you just do a /y in DOS.

This is coming from a person who's a computer technician and who's worked at Radi-doh-Shack in front of people who try to look like they know an inkling about computers when they couldn't tell their head from their ass. :\

Although, I would kinda have to think the same thing considering the fact that this is a technology-based board...

Just saying...

I know about how well I know computers, and compared to what else I know about computing without knowing it but still knowing it exists, I confuse you with many words, yes indeed. Or, comparing what I know to what I know is out there, I likely only have basic knowledge.
I know that, the Spambot steals knowledge of your E-mail, and rapidly outputs spams to as many addresses as it can from what info it took from you.

Well, my mom talked to the phone company last night, and from what she referenced, apparantly uninstalling Outlook Express would fix it.
Confirm?
Deny?
Instructions from the true pros instead of a random Google site?

Uninstalling it would stop the problem, sure, but you have no email then...so what would be the point?

And the minute you re-installed an email client it would likely happen again. Some sort of SMTP hook/worm is on your comp taking control of sending out things left and right. That Housecall program do anything for you or have you tried it?

Probably should've used that picture instead.

At any rate, Outlook Express was only used about every 8 months, and that was just to check to see if there was anything important, since me and my mom both use Yahoo! instead.
Uninstalling O.E. should do no harm.

Also, that Housecall thing...it never would go past the Prep. prompt.

Something should've been figured by now otherwise.

I dunno...at that point of not being in front of the comp to know WHAT the heck you guys are doing, I'd be liable to start agreeing with HH about the format at that point...saves the hassle.

Uninstalling Outlook won't help either if the virus does its own SMTP handling.

It might, it might not, but here are two facts;

1: There are no backups of this computer, and no current way to make any.

2: It's really my mom's computer, and she's 100% against formatting. It's not my decision, it's hers, and she says no to that.

That being said, where would the spambot be found at, what would it look like, and would it be the reason that the internet is acting like 50bps?
