You act as if summary executions aren't generally used to dispose of minorities. That was the whole point of the resolution, "stop killing people because they're minorities, from unpopular countries, or homosexual."

Add to that the fact that at least a few countries treat homosexuality as a crime in itself, and... well...

UN Resolutions are about as efficacious as toilet paper, so I disregard them just like the nations who are gonna kill people randomly do.

Again, I love how everyone is still up in arms about this as though it is a big deal. Honestly, the word "arbitrary" once again has multiple meanings. Yes, in the context of some countries it does have the meaning and context you are all referring to but that is not always the case. I stand by my point in that in matters of the court or otherwise (in cases where that context is relevant), homosexuals should have no more special treatment than any other minority group (such as those of different races)... I also stand by my point that we won't ever truly remove discrimination if we keep treating everyone differently. You want equal rights for everyone? Then stop expecting special treatment for certain groups of people, I guess.

See now, this is kinda odd. While I do agree that no one group should be treated specially.

The problem with that is that as long as there are people who are against a group and their voice are heard, there needs to be something to counter that. There are reasons for why the hate crime law exists, you know.

See if we lived in a world where everyone accepted each other for who they where, then obviously we would not need such things, but the reality is: we don't. And that's something we just have to live with and make the best of it. :/

Oh yeah, I'm aware of that. I think the hate crime law is a great and necessary thing. I was just making the point that if we wanted true equality, we would need to treat everyone the same--this of course involved not hating on one another too. Which we sadly know is never gonna happen

UN restores reference to sexual orientation in resolution against the unjustified killing of minority groups.

It's about time ... although, it's not like anyone ever listens to the UN, anyway.
