Any other SimCity fans here?

My favourites are 2000 and 3000. I've played SimCity 4 and I thought it was pretty cool, but it tends to crash a lot in my experience and it's pretty slow, plus if you want the really cool stuff you need mods, which tend to fuck up in various ways. Once I had a nice large hospital building and later the ground around it was some kind of weird wire-frame grid instead of, well, ground.

I'd say I prefer 3000 over 2000 overall, as it has a lot more features including much larger possible map sizes, better-looking buildings, better graphics, landmarks, all kinds of cool reward buildings, etc. (Does anyone else like to build larger university campuses out of the university, colleges, stadium, science center, library, museum, and other buildings? I even zoned some medium residential nearby and got like 5 of the "Heidi" building, which I thought looked good in a row as dorms. Then I threw in the Tower of London because it looked cool near the university.)

I started with the original SimCity in its Windows incarnation, which was cool at the time but didn't really age well, what with its fixed-size single-density zoning, few buildings, and no elevation. SC2k aged a lot better, although maybe that's just the [trope]NostalgiaFilter[/trope] at work as that's the SC incarnation I mostly grew up with.

YOU CAN'T CUT BACK ON FUNDING! YOU WILL REGRET THIS!

I've only played 2000 and a little bit of the original, though as you say it hasn't really aged well, and since I had played 2000 before the original, it doesn't compare very well...

I liked 2000 a lot, though. (Not sure why I never bothered to try the sequels) I remember I had the "Construction Kit" (or something like that) that let you try and draw new graphics over the city... though none of mine came out very well...

Ah, the Urban Renewal Kit

IIRC, that one let you create tilesets and even custom cities with infinite money, although with the latter there was no guarantee that it would work correctly in SC2k

My favorite is the SNES version of the original. The others were too complicated for me to bother learning.

Simcity Classic SNES and Simcity 3000 Unlimited. I remember a few of the cheats in those games.

SCURK + Streets of Simcity was fun, too

Yeah I play SimCity 4 and it likes to crash and be buggy in various places, but there are enough ways to get around it and make the game somewhat playable. Though I downloaded 2.2 GB worth of plugins to make the game a lot of fun (and very unrealistic).

Yeah, a shame I can't get the damn game to work on XP without crashing.

SimCity 2000 is my absolute favorite... used to play it on my Mac years ago

Haven't played any SimCity game in a while, though

My absolute favorite is Sim City 2000, specifically the DOS version for all of the color cycling animations and stuff.

I also like the SNES Sim City; it was my first ever Sim City game.

When I was a kid, I would have to play these with money cheats, since I didn't really care about the simulation all that much. However, after I had a chance to grow up, I find the simulation really fun, and play "honestly" now.

I kinda wish there were a mobile adaptation of the Sim City games that wasn't complete rubbish though...

I liked 3000 most. But I did enjoy 2000 for a while until it wouldn't work on my machine.

I usually just got to play the SNES version of SimCity growing up. It was a hell of a lot of fun though, even though when I was a kid, I could only get to a Capital.

I've managed to get about 250,000+ citizens on my last attempt at the game though. I might try again for the 500,000+ mark.

Yes, that's it! I remember the name now...

I didn't use the custom city function too often from scratch, it felt too easy that way... though I do think that's what I used to get the arcology ending...

The VERY BEST I ever got was about 320k on map 000.

I've only played 2000 and 3000 Unlimited. Recently I had to download a torrent of the latter since my CD seems to be unplayable now, but the weird thing is that 3kU seems to be having a hard time starting up regardless, and I have no idea why. It's even my favorite game of the two, so I'm pretty bummed that I can only get it to run half the time (and have to worry about it unexpectedly closing after playing for an hour without saving )

Interestingly, the version of SC3k I have doesn't require a CD key, though I've heard it's required in some other versions...

I think I used something like Map 018 or something. It was one with just a one main river going through it.

Man, now I really wanna play this, and I have stuff to do tonight.

I think there was a guide on Gamefaqs for the SNES Simcity that analysed all the maps and basically worked out what the optimal ones were in terms of land and getting a megalopolis.

Ah, I should go play that game again. I was good enough at Sim City 2000 to get the exodus, though

Yeah, that's the one I looked at in order to get the map idea. That's really a comprehensive guide that guy came up with. It's not often I see something that impressive lingering around there.

Never really gave 3K a good shot, but I prefer 2K. I'm just comfortable with it and can build a semi-decent city.

Original's good too.
