No need to get so mad. Kids who aren't exposed to the fact homosexuals/same sex marriage are, by and large, completely normal will tend to be a bit homophobic. It happens to almost anyone growing up in North America.

holyromanemperortatan: What's your objection to homosexuality that you have personally thought of, and not an objection that you've just sort of absorbed from other people?

What? That's what the world would be like. What makes an atom an atom are mostly the protons. Take away or add one proton, and it's anothor element.

Double-check your science. Neutrons are not nuclear radiation; they are neutrally-charged particles that hold protons together in atoms.

Also, you can see neutrons. Ever heard of a neutron star?

Nuclear radiation is made up of particles like neutrons (and protons my bad) (i.e. Alpha, Beta, Gamma). And you are correct about the neutron star (pulsar).

I think we're getting off topic just a little bit.

For those of you who are unaware, the senate meetings on whether or not to repeal DADT is underway. The Prop 8 Trial Tracker has liveblog records of the first two days of the proceedings. It's certainly worth reading.

I love how he totally dodged Kles's question because coming up for a reason to hate people is hard.

Whatever. Good riddance.

I was gonna say, he was kind of cluttering threads with that nonsense.

Anyway, back on topic. Uh... I guess it's good the same-sex marriage is coming to those states people mentioned earlier.

Personally, I think anybody using a 2,000 year old text as a weapon against homosexuality should be stabbed in the face with a frying pan.

But, it's good to see that LGBT people are finally getting the rights they deserve and it appears to be happening quite rapidly.

Adam and Eve weren't even married, so I have no idea why that's always used as an argument against gay marriage.

Also, it really was Adam and Steve.

Sheesh. If your religion tells you that you can't even be in the vicinity of homosexuals, find another planet to live on.

I know we're well beyond this user by now, but I wanted to state how hypocritical a statement like that, and the Christian view point are. The Christian view point being a cheap way to mask the fact that they don't like it, so they say, "yeah, you can be together, you just can't display affection for each other physically." That's like saying, "hey, I know you really like pumpkin pie, here's a slice of pumpkin pie, I have no problem with you having it, as long as you don't eat it." I guess the old have your cake and eat it too adage actually applies here. :O

Yes.

Also, I am betting that Utah will be the last to accept same-sex marriage, and will only do so because of a U.S. Amendment forcing them to.

lol, mormons

9th Circuit Court Throws Prop 8 Standing Question Back to CA Supreme Court

A federal appeals court says it can't decide if California's gay marriage ban is constitutional until the state's highest court weighs in on whether Proposition 8's sponsors have the authority to defend the ban.

In a brief order filed Tuesday, a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals asked the California Supreme Court to decide if the backers of ballot propositions can step in to defend voter-approved measures in court when state officials refuse to do so.

The question is central to the future of Proposition 8 because former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and then-Attorney General Jerry Brown refused to appeal a San Francisco trial judge's August decision striking down the ban as a violation of gay Californians' civil rights.

So my prediction? CA's Supreme Court rules that they do not have standing and Walker's ruling becomes law in CA.

In other news, Imperial County was denied standing. (according to the Prop 8 Trial Tracker)

Gov. Lincoln Chafee Calls On Lawmakers To Legalize Gay Marriage

Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee called on lawmakers to legalize gay marriage in his inauguration speech on Tuesday.

Chafee, a former Republican, was sworn in as the state's first independent governor on the front steps of the Legislature. He took the oath of office as his wife, Stephanie, and three children – Louisa, Caleb and Thea – beamed on.

In his speech, he promised “honest, reliable government,” and reiterated his call for lawmakers to legalize gay marriage.

“When marriage equality is the law in Rhode Island, we honor our forefathers who risked their lives and fortune in the pursuit of human equality.”

“Rhode Island today must be as welcoming to all as [founder] Roger Williams intended it to be. Mark my words, these two actions will do more for economic growth in our state than any economic development loan,” he said, referring to his candidate pledge to repeal anti-immigration policies of his Republican predecessor. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)

Legislators in Rhode Island have considered a gay marriage bill every year since 1997. Supporters are banking on Chafee to help build momentum in the next legislative session.

I think it might finally be time for gay marriage to come to Rhode Island, it's not too far-fetched for the legislature to pass it, but we'll see.

Maryland might be next.

Edit: A RI legislator plans to introduce a same-sex marriage bill tomorrow, Thursday

The drive to legalize gay marriage in Rhode Island will begin anew on Thursday, with the re-introduction in the House of a bill to allow for same-sex nuptials.

In a brief interview on Wednesday, Rep. Arthur Handy, D-Cranston, said he had already lined up 27 co-sponsors and was hoping for more, but would introduce the bill no matter what the number of Thursday in hopes of spurring an early-session hearing and vote on the measure.

Besides Handy, the other lead sponsors include the openly gay House Speaker Gordon D. Fox, D-Providence, who had said in the days leading up to the start of the 2011 General Assembly session that he hoped for a House vote on same-sex marriage early in the session, before the lawmakers get wrapped up in budget and other issues.

A same-sex marriage bill has never made it that far before, and its chances in the Senate remain uncertain, with Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed confirming again recently that she remains personally opposed.
