Great news to those in Illinois, a bill legalizing civil unions passed the lower house and it's expected to pass the senate and get signed by the governor. 
After about an hour of discussion, the Illinois House on Tuesday evening approved legislation legalizing civil unions.
The Illinois Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act -- SB1716 -- passed 61 to 52. The Senate is expected to also pass the bill and Gov. Pat Quinn has said he would sign it.
Supporters and opponents had been working furiously up until Tuesday to line up votes on whether the state should offer some kind of legal recognition to same-sex couples.

Civil unions coming to Illinois 
In a landmark 32 to 24 vote, legislation recognizing civil unions among gay and lesbian couples passed the Illinois Senate Wednesday afternoon. The bill now heads to Gov. Quinn, who has pledged to sign it.
Once enacted, Illinois would become just the sixth state to recognize civil unions or domestic partnerships.
“Today was a great day for the people of Illinois, for the family of Illinois,’’ said Quinn.

I don't care if someone is gay or straight. I don't even care if gays serve in the army. But same-sex marriages? That's just completely immoral. I think that same-sex marriages, along with tobacco, should be outlawed in the US

Infringing upon the happiness of others for no other reason than that you find their love "icky" is immoral. Say what you will, but if you claim that them getting married is wrong and that you also don't care one way or the other, you are lying. Which is, while we're on the topic, immoral when it's for purely self-serving reasons, as it likely is here.
