I posted this on the talk page for Castlevania 3 on TCRF, but never got an answer, so I'll try again here and hope for better results:

A while back, I was poking through this game in YY-CHR, and found what appear to be a pair of unused items. The first one is clearly the whip upgrade from the first Castlevania, left unused as there's a completely different whip upgrade graphic, while the second looks like some sort of shield or crystal. My question is, are these actually unused, or do they appear somewhere in game that I'm not aware of?

The diamond/shield thing reminds me of the Diamond from Castlevania 2. Wonder if it was planned to have a similar item at some point.
