I heard about this.

Maybe seeing what the lack of net neutrality will bring might make the politicians actually do something for a change.

...

Though, I really like to think what will happen if Comcast eats NBC. Just think if the fun -- they're already blocking competition with their own video services... who is to say that they won't, oh, charge ABC, CBS, etc. to go over their lines?


(Now if only I had any hope that those in office would actually fix this.)

If I remember right from an article I saw earlier this morning, Comcast's claim is that they're not necessarily charging for video, but that the Netflix-Level 3 deal means that Level 3 Communications will be sending more data to Comcast than the other way around, so they want to re-negotiate the peering agreement. Which makes it sound a little more legitimate if they're talking about actual network costs versus "we wantz teh video moniez"... but on the other hand, that was a Comcast PR flack, so trustworthiness is perhaps not high.

Right now companies like ABC and CBS charge Comcast for allowing their content to be sent over their lines... so a plus side if the balance of power shifted to the cable companies would be perhaps the possibility of a la carte? But of course, in practice that won't happen...

5002		Next thing you know, Comcast will be buying Clear Channel or Cumulus Radio and trying to get into that industry too... I'm just hoping for the day when they get too big for their own good and end up splitting into different companies, like the old AT&T in 1984.
