It happens every year, and people always complain about it, but I wanted to get your opinions on the issue, because mine is usually the opposite of everyone else. Every year around this time people are too focused on the fact that Christmas is getting closer they forget that it's only November or even earlier. I saw a Walgreens around here that literally had a whole Christmas decoration aisle around the end of September. That's pushing it. Christmas just engulfs all the months around it. Who cares about Halloween or Thanksgiving? Christmas is in a month or two!

Everybody always says they hate it but, personally I kinda like it. Don't get me wrong I like Halloween and by January the decorations should come down, but Christmas time always makes me feel nostalgic and sentimental because I reflect on the past and all the great memories I had on previous Christmas seasons. Plus, Thanksgiving, is an awful holiday. As Americans, we gorge and reflect upon how we basically kicked indigenous people out of our homeland. How egotistical is that? Christmas music is a joy to listen to, and all the decorated yards always make me want to take pictures and videos and stuff. It just seems like a great time of the year, and it is a great way to go out of the year. If it wants to come a little early, why not?

So, what's your opinion Jul?

I'm fine with Christmas stuff starting around mid-November, but September is too early. September is still the end of summer in my book.

What's next? "Only 10 Months Until Christmas" sales in mid-February?

And around here, two radio stations are already playing all Christmas music, but one of them is more stunting for a format change =P

Thanksgiving to me is just a day off and a day out to eat. I never saw much significance in it.

Honestly, I like seeing Christmas stuff come early if for the simple fact that it irritates people endlessly. I don't know why, but it just makes me smirk.

I don't celebrate Thanksgiving these days. We used to go to dinner at my aunt's house (they're the crazy fundie Christian wing of the family), but I won't be going all the way to Michigan to get chewed out over my lifestyle.

I won't be celebrating Thanksgiving this year, but I will be at work (yea, a lot of retail businesses are starting to open on Thanksgiving these days), and might visit my girlfriend's parents' house after work =P

Local major stores actually got grilled by locals for putting up Christmas when they should have had Halloween stuff.

I don't mind Christmas either. It's just the number of folks in my family who are religious zealots that feel they need to exaggerate how it's about "Christ" and nothing else; not even family.

Well, the issue with the extension of Christmas is that the stores are being Christmasy, but nothing else really is... so it just seems kind of out of place. By the time you get into December, houses will have lights up, maybe there is snow (I am from Massachusetts, I realize that some of you don't have snow in your mysterious desert lands), etc.; versus just having wreaths and such next to the Halloween costumes at CVS.

We show some restraint here until after Halloween, although the odd ad sneaks in on TV.

Weekend after Halloween this year? Malls DECKED OUT in decorations and lights.

I just like the food. Christmas and Thanksgiving always brings a lot of food, and leftovers. Oh, and let's not forget all kinds of hors d'euvres.

Family is also nice but I'm generally not terribly social, so I mostly just hang around browsing the internet on my phone or watching TV, but my yoounger nephews like hanging out with me, probably because my computer is loaded with ROMs. :p

I tend to get depressed during the holidays. Happens every year and my hubby thinks it's more mental than anything else.

I mean, I work on Thanksgiving, X-MAS and New Years and DON'T get paid time and a half. I think we get extra days off, I think, but still. Plus people act like dumb asses during this time of year. Opening up at 10pm on Thanksgiving to start Black Friday sales, really? People die just to get the best prices, makes me sick.

Yet, I see many people starting earlier. One of our neighbors already mounted all the Xmas decor, which while it may be sensible by the temperatures we have atm, is way too early calendar-wise.

Did they just put it up, or did they never take it down?

Once in awhile I see a house with Christmas lights up as late as Easter... (though turned off, so that's something I guess)

Maybe some people leave the lights out all year but only turn them on around Xmas? I think businesses often do that.

My parents are known for leaving stuff up for months or even until the following year.

Lots of my neighbors do that.
Also, it probably doesn't matter to anybody, but I'm currently using the Jul Christmas layout. It's nice. :)
