I have roughly 20-25mb broadband right now. Tops out at 30, rarely. Still, it's nice to load everything so very quickly.

Bad modem or router, perhaps? Road Runner gave me a bad modem when we moved

I think the company itself doesn't provide a very secure service, because the connection flickers for everyone who uses it. And since I live in the middle of nowhere, of course they're the only providers...

But hey, at least I have the internet, right?

~3mbps

When I trip the torrent wire, though, it tanks to nothing.

Limit your upload? It helps a bunch when I do it.

That is exactly what I do to where just having uTorrent open will normally not cause any problems. Then I open up a lot of tabs on impulse and forget uTorrent is running.

NO INTERNET FOR ME

Have you used uTorrent's speed guide to set your upload limit? And if you did, what did you set it to?

Before I got this newer crappy connection, I had to live off of a byte limit, which was the most painful thing I've ever done. Between five people that overly used the internet, the bandwidth was exceeded within a week of the signed month, which was sad.

Byte Limits are very annoying

Sadly, that's probably the future of internet connections... aren't a lot of connections already technically limited to like 200GB or some high number? But of course, what seems like a high number in 2010 may not be so in 2015...

The sad thing is, I used to think it would be the opposite... It seemed the internet was continue going uphill, but I suppose not. Still, as long as the byte limit doesn't drop too much it will be fine... I think the one I had was 40 gigs a month, which was just not going to work with all of the torrents that I download.

I'm connected to some router somewhere around here that's connected to Comcast, but it's so far away I only get about 2 bars most of the time, so it's not particularly fast, but still pretty fast (8mb/s~ according to speedtest)

When that's down or I'm away I have to use Sprint where I get down speeds of about 50kb/s on average.

And I have to live with 3 Mbit/s. Which is rather sad, but oh well, it works for me.

8mbps here. No complaints and I don't have any torrent problems either.

Of course, I usually don't download torrents during peak periods, where throttling is in effect. :\

I actually haven't torrented anything in quite a while... I tend to use direct HTTP downloads for everything.

Probably works in my favor, since the places where I get the best speeds don't allow for torrenting.

Same here... I rarely use torrents anymore, only for stuff like Linux and other free software. =)

I've actually never seen any torrents for Linux distributions - just HTTP, which I've always used, as I said.

Maybe I'm just not noticing them, however...

Every time I tried to HTTP download a Linux distro, it'd sometimes stall out or corrupt, so I've stuck with torrents since then

Hm... it seems like, on blog comment sections when arguments break out over piracy and torrents, Linux ISOs are the usual thing noted as a legitimate use of torrents...

I don't use torrents much myself either, actually... only if I have to, since HTTP tends to be faster.
