@ray: For the red blocks appearing, there was a setting on sprite 197 that is named "never time out" if I remember correctly. Check it
And no, there's no way to make a moving stone platform appear with a switch. Only the sprites that have an "Activator ID" field can be activated by a switch.

Hello,
I'm trying to hack the multiplayer levels. I've tried with the first one (SMB 1-1), and by now, nearly everything works fine.
My problem: I was thinking about making my level higher, but resetting the view rectangle doesn't seem to work. I deleted the 195 and 196 sprites as Cyberxeroxx suggested, which didn't help, either. I can see up to the battle stars (210 blocks). This is how (part of) my level looks like right now:

Does anyone have suggestions on how to solve my problem?
Woah, just found out, scrolling up/down actually seems to work SOMEtimes. I can't seem so figure out when it does and when it doesn't, though. Putting a springboard in the level and jumping off of it seems to help, not sure about this, though.

Some other questions regarding multiplayer hacking:
As I don't have a second DS right now, I can't test the level in real mp. So I just export the mp level and import it to sp level 1-3. I can play it, but when Mario spawns, there are no pipes, he just spawns on the ground. Could that be a problem? Could my method produce any other problems?

Is there anything else I need to do to get my levels to work in multiplayer besides changing those NARC- and BIN-files?

Should I read through the whole Mario Vs. Luigi stage hacking thread? ^^

Does anybody have finished, fun-to-play mp levels and could upload the patch? Would love to try some.

Thanks, guys! Love whats happening here, I've been waiting for new multiplayer maps for 4 years... Being able to make some for myself makes me feel like Shigeru Myamoto. ^^

I do believe that the New Super Fusion Bros
is the only hack right now that has custom MvL levels

(that have been released)

You see the 16x16 block grid the editor displays when editing the level?
The camera will NEVER scroll into empty 16x16 blocks. You have two empty blocks (top left and top right) So if you want it to scroll upwards, you have to put something in them. Look at the original MvsL Ice World, for example: Each block has an invisible object in the top left corner of each block. That's used to make the camera scroll upwards.

Nope, that's perfectly normal. I also test MvsL levels copying them to single player levels.
The pipes only appear when you're playing the level in real MvsL mode, I don't know why. That's not a problem: when you test the level with 2 ds's you'll see they appear.

Alright, I put an invisible block (Object 2 of tileset 0, like in the ice level) in every upper quad of the grid. Actually I also changed the view, the size of the level, the position of the starting points and even the progress path (^^) to exactly match those of the ice level. Still no scrolling upwards, though, except when launching from a spinning jump board. Ignoring the spinning jump boards, the level behaves exactly like the original SMB 1-1 level. Anything I might have overlooked?

Okay, then do this:

- On the level chooser, select world 1-2a area 1 (That one because its camera settings work as we want it to)
- Click "Hex Edit"
- Select Block 2 (on the top)
- Select ALL and copy it (Control+C like in any text editor)
- Close the hex editor.

- Now select your level
- Click "Hex edit"
- Select Block 2
- Erase everything in the block
- Paste (Control+V)
- Save
- Close

It should work OK now
Hope it helps ...

hi everyone. I know this is probably a stupid question but are you able to or will you ever be able to edit the world map?

Whoa...
Someone asked some time ago the same question.
The answer is not for now. The world map is 3d, and 3d stuff is much more complicated than a simple 2d level...
Maybe sometime in the future someone will implement a 3d model importer for NDS. Then, it could become doable.

I'm working on it right now. There is a huge bug that needs fixing, and after that, i'll need to fix plenty of other bugs, and after that, i'll have to test that everything works right...

And yeah, that question has been asked hundreds of times

I'm not the best with pipes,
but it looks like the exit pipe's exit icon is off a few pixels

there's a button to hold when moving the pipe entrances,
so they'll always line up

but I forget what it is

edit:
try holding shift or ctrl when moving the entrances and see if they line up

I have a Problem.
I have edited the Tiles, so I can walk through them (in the foreground). But when I jump, I can stand on these four red marked blocks (standing on blue marked like in the picture)

Can anybody help me?

EDIT: I'VE FIXED IT MYSELF

1.)
when I use the texture editor, everything goes wrong...
if I import a pic to a nsbtx file in the editor, all the transparent colour in the picture is replaced by another random colour!
I think this has something to do with the colour palletes!
Is there a way to fix that problem?

2.)
If I open an ncg file in the editor r128 I is not displayed!!!
i only can export them and edit them with tile molester!
but I have seen screen shots, where you can edit the ncg files with the editor.

Hope you can awnser these two questions ^^

The texture editor is NOT finished, it simply doesn't work properly yet.

For the new graphics editor, you need to open the NCG and afterwards the corresponding NCL and click "Add all".
Then you'll see the list of images and palettes.

You may also want to chechout r129. Now graphics importing works properly. (EDIT: the 2d ones, not the 3d ones)

NARC's are like ZIP files: they have other files "inside". They aren't images.
