Seriously, how do people do it?

I'm talking obscene post counts. There's a forum I'm a member of where someone's amassed 20,000+ posts in two years. He doesn't really spam, or he'd have been banned long ago. Then I see people here with 10,000+, 11,000+, etc, and this place isn't even that old.

Myself? The most posts I have on a forum is 3642, and that's on a forum that I've been a member of ever since 2001. Even then, I think the admin's fucked with my post count, cause the search only brings up 2200ish.

People seem to amass more posts in a single place in 2 or 3 years than I've made in 10 years on all forums combined, and I just don't understand how it's possible. Is there really that much to talk about?

It depends on how much time you have (sort of, I can still post plenty when I'm busy ) and how much self-reviewing you do.

If you don't care much about your post, and just want to put your ideas and thoughts out there, it's easy. When you triple cross check and second guess your posts, you aren't really as able to contribute frequently.

Same basic principle behind IRC:

*000205 @MillyBot> Xkeeper's line count: 256443 - Rank 9/32240 - Next: 15139, Prev: 24440

If you just have light-hearted fun about it, there doesn't need to be that much to talk about. Sure, it helps (a lot), but even just having random chats about what's on your mind at any given moment can start discussions.

Really, it depends on how comfortable you are with chatting with the population of the forum.

For example, despite being on VGF 10 years, my postcount is only 16kish. I never really connected with them, and even today things are a bit standoffish, so I reserve my posts there--as I never know who am I going to have to browbeat for acting like a retard next.

Here, there is no real worry. So I just post whatever, although sometimes I still discard some ideas. After all, outright spam isn't appropriate except in properly marked containers. :p

I guess you could say time, but, in my case, I'm usually busy.

I guess it comes down to the want to post.

On a lot of sites (though maybe not so much this one) forum games produce a lot of posts... so that's one way to skyrocket one's post count...

But I think it comes down to what one's standards for a "post" are... if you just treat it like a conversation where you post whatever, you'll get a lot more posts than if you have higher standards...

I found this rather hilarious, considering that my only other forum that I visit on a regular basis has the highest postcount being 12,000+, and they've been around for I think it was 3 years.

I used to wonder the same thing, actually.

Then I started replying to threads a lot, starting mini-conversations, participating in more things around the board, etc. Here, I actually have got a lot of posts from the games I run in the Signpost Maze.

On another board they have a spam forum, but posting in there does not increase your post count. There was one user called "Dr. Schwarzkopf" who only posted in there so his postcount said 0, which led to people calling him "Dr. Spamkopf".

One of those threads is called "Last person to post wins!". Essentially, you could post anything and everything in there, with no restrictions at all.

That username sounds awfully familiar.

And on topic..
I figured the same as Imajin. There's a lot more conversation here that's spread everywhere as opposed to other boards where people tend to aim only to contribute pure content without really creating a 'community'.

Though most of you older Julers seem to be more like a big family than a simple community.

I just kind of ended up opening up here randomly and branching out of the TCRF forum and posting stuff. Now I have over a thousand posts.

Sometimes I worry about being too spammy, but I'm sure people will let me know if I ever am.

I came here for the Super Mario 64 hacking. 2 days after, I started posting everywhere else. And now I have nearly 2000 posts and that was what, 6 months ago?

I'm registered on Gaia Online and I have almost 30,000 posts there xP I guess it depends on how many people you know in the forum and how often you 'chat' in threads instead of PMs or somewhere else. Forum games help a lot, that's pretty much the reason I have so many posts over there

That's the idea, really. Though the ten year reunion is coming up pretty soon (next year, even) ... man, this is crazy

I gotta say, on the topic of post reviewing before you hit submit...

I can story post almost as often as I can normal post, in fact, back after the sprees, for a while FP and I dominated daily post count on stories alone. It's weird.

I have naturally good grammar though, so i don't really need to go back and make sure my posts are okay.

Edit: Ahahaha, look at this post. I missed capitalizing an I when I was pointing out my grammar. Dohohohoho...

And I post even less!

I got to this many posts before things started getting crappy offline so now that I'm attempting to deal with them, I find myself not posting here as much.

I think I average at about 1500 posts a year, give or take, and that's still not even that much.

Well... this is my 4799th post, so I'll probably reach 5000 by the end of the year =D

And I've been starting to post a bit more, so it might come sooner than I think =P
