Working on a Weak Article system similar to the Featured Article system, for games with lots of known unused content but a poorly written/laid out page.

This thread is for discussing the system and nomination of Weak Articles.

That's great, It helps making articles up to wiki standard.

"A horrible person". That's what it says. "A horrible person."

We weren't even testing for that.

Don't we already have the various templates aka {{stub}}, {{start}} etc.? Why need another one?

For things with plenty of content that aren't well organized/documented/explained, as opposed to things with little content.

I thought that's what {{sucks}} was for?

I never intended for it to be. Some of the articles do suck horribly.

{{sucks}} seems rather... needlessly harsh, honestly. Like something the wiki would've had in the earlier days... I like the "Weak Article" concept, but as Xkeeper said on IRC, it should be preset, not random.

Okay, how's about we keep {{sucks}} for really terrible, bottom-of-the-barrel articles that are basically on life support, and make a new {{weak}} template for everything else?

It's not really weak as much of in need of expansion.

And that's what {{elaborate}} is for. Honestly, most cases already have templates... like I said, having a manually chosen list of articles that could use work every week (say, 3 or 4) would be best.

My thought was that we'd get all the articles that need some work together and devote a front page spot to randomly cycling them, so they would be brought to attention. The exposure is important- it's not just a template. See what I'm doing on the front-page sandbox.

That's what the relevant things are for (stub, start, elaborate, etc).

What I was getting at was that we go through those, pick three, and say "OK, let's concentrate on these articles for now." Idea being that we go for the major ones at first.

Picking at random is a bad idea, since it could end up being "Ugh, this game. Not bothering." or whatever...

Eh, all right. I would like to keep a list of weak articles even if we only call attention to a few at a time, though.

Thoughts on candidates?

I'll nominate Metroid Prime 2- the old scandata lists I found are interesting, but I can't even get MPXViewer to run and the page is poorly organized, since I'm not exactly good at the presentation aspects...

Again, there's already mechanisms for a list.

start: Page is just a short info dump, either missing the game info, or completely missing content
stub: Some content, but few/no details and needs an explanation of how to see it
elaborate: Content there and accessible given the instructions, but needs to have a good, understandable write-up
needsimages: Needs some good images to accompany the text, or (selectively) needs an image of the content, for example a lost area that doesn't have a picture for it
NeedsUpdate:* Uses out-of-date wiki standards and needs some cleanup and reformatting

sucks: Something went horribly wrong somewhere and this article needs help badly

The idea being that a reasonable article would progress through the first 3 "categories", possibly go through the fourth, then be considered "finished". Really, anything below a finished article would be "weak".

*Why are these ones capitalized? The general gist was to have most of the common templates lowercase.

Mmm, all right. Works.

I did NeedsUpdate; lacking a style guide, I was unaware a standard was in place.
