Serious WTF here...
This happened to me on Windows 7 along time ago and now, using my really old laptop running Windows XP, I remembered about this.
Look at this, clicky.
See that image... This is what it is when opened... What...The...Fuck.

Side-by-side.

Anyone have any idea about this?

I've had the exact same thing happen to me a few times - it's not restricted to those particular types of images, obviously. In my case, a wallpaper I had darkened retained its brighter colors in the thumbnail.

I'm not sure if it's an issue with thumbs.db (it could be, perhaps?), or with the image file itself. I'm honestly not quite sure if it's not a thumbs.db issue, however...

Ohhh... Maybe all the ones that come from memegenerator have some thumbnail store with the file?

That particular JPEG contains an EXIF header with a thumbnail. Memegenerator copies the EXIF data without updating the thumbnail.

I had a picture of a gaggle of chickens and when I uploaded it the thumbnail turned into the Marlboro Man. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one.

Yeah, thumbnails tend to get messed up when you alter images. Especially if you rotate them.

I imagine there are all kinds of thumbnail pranks. Images that look innocent when you see the thumbnail, but when you open it, you see a women with a shlong.

I always found that sort of funny.
It goes away if you open it in an editor and save it as a new file though, usually. (At least it does when I do that with GIMP.)

There are programs that'll strip or edit/refresh EXIF data without processing the entire image again. Especially since saving a JPG as another JPG will lose more details.

Well, at least that explains how Troll Will Smith just looks like regular Will Smith in the thumbnail on my computer.

Also, that Chinese/serious Goofy. I want that.

The thumbnail system in XP isn't perfect either. I had one file accidentally get wiped out (completely overwritten with zeros) but still display the original thumbnail.

Since I moved to Ubuntu, I'm seeing thumbs.db everywhere.

I gotta nuke them all once.

thumbs.db is actually one of the few things XP does that irritates the hell out of me.

Makes me wonder if Vista/7 do it, actually... though I don't believe they do.

It is possible to make Windows stop generating desktop.ini and thumbs.db files. (It irritated me too. )

I went through the settings to disable thumbs.db and such, but the damn OS went and re-enabled it all.

I had problems like that.

Turns out my computer was overheating or something. Cooked my RAM twice, corrupted a few system files, and probably damaged my registry.

I've found a few in Windows 7. However, it might be because I'm using an FTP program from '95
