I'm surprised we did not have one already... so I made one!
So... my DSi XL arrived today, and I must admit I'm surprised at it, in a good way.
The screen is much bigger (I had lite before) which makes it very is to spot things where designers got lazy, but also, games feel a lot more alive. The shoulder buttons seam to be much higher quality than those in the lite, which makes me glad as the ones in my lite don't respond any more.
The only downside I have right now is that it's a little bit too big to drag to school and the should buttons are a bit hard to use for my small hands. :o
Anyhow, I'm happy that I picked it up, even though I'm going to regret it so much when the 3DS comes.
(Also, I made this topic to be like the wii, PS3, etc topics but for handheld systems. So I'm going to go ahead and request sticky! x3 )

| I was thinking about getting a DSi XL to replace my aging white DS Lite (I've lost the stylus, which makes using it kind of a pain), but it's hard to justify it when the 3DS is coming...
Does it feel much heavier than the lite?

Actually, we had one of these a while back, but after a few months, it died off due to inactivity.
As much as I like the number seven, I think we should wait and see if this thread outdoes its predecessor before we get out the adhesive. |

You know, I still haven't seen any reason to upgrade from my original Phat DS.
DS Lite feels like the buttons are made of marshmallow and DSi has region locking built in. So...yeah. |

My DSlite (technically my sister's) was stolen in a robbery last week. Haven't heard if we'll get it back yet.
I hope so, it had both a SupercardDSONEi and a 3-in-1 GBA cart. ; ____________________ |

I was not aware the DSi had built in region lock. D:
That was one thing that I always thought was so great about the DS. (I imported megaman ZX from the US)
Oh well, at least there are ways to get around that. *coughcough*

My DS (original) is the only game system I have here in my dorm. (Laptop doesn't count.) I have a big stack of games for me to select from, some of which haven't really been touched yet. Superstar Saga has been in the GBA slot since Partners in Time came out.

I didn't realize any physically-purchasable DS games had region locking... I had thought it was only for DSiWare. That's a shame...

I sold my DS ages ago. I had finished the few games I was interested in (Mario 64 DS, both Zelda's) and it wasn't being used. But I totally plan on getting the 3DS when it comes out
My iPhone is full of games, but the one I seem to play the most is Tetris. I can actually get to the end of Tetris. Level 15 is fun

 | | SupercardDSTWO showed up. Nice to have one for my XL.
In somewhat less related news, now finally own an iPod. Many years past the curve there. Looks like this might be a 6th gen 80GB, not quite sure how to use it... Didn't come with instructions.

Actually, all the game systems, including the handhelds, have bits around for specifying the region, including all of the models of the DS. Whether or not anyone (the system manufacturer, game companies) actually does anything with it...
Are we sure the DSi/XL/3DS aren't still mostly region-free (in terms of DS games) like always, and that - if it's true about Pokemon Black/White - that they're simply two of the carts that actually bother to do something with the region coding?
As for me, I'm still using my original blue DS. Have to like being able to have two games immediately available without switching cartridges around.

The one thing that I don't understand about the DS, is that the GBA slot is incapable of playing GB/C games. Why? If they're going to emulate GBA games, why not emulate the GBA capacity to emulate GB/C games. That just makes sense to me.

The thing is that the DS and GBA doesn't do emulating, or well not as much emulating. The DS has a similar CPU to the GBA that they use for GBA games, but the GBA had an added Z80 CPU just for playing Game Boy games. And adding another CPU on top of the two already in the DS would probably cost a lot.
Or I could just be totally wrong about this, but I double checked Wikipedia and it makes sense to me.
Take it or leave it.

Hm? My original DS plays my GB/C games with no problems. So does my sister's DS Lite, except the longer GB cartridges jut out from the Lite by a bit, much like they do on my GBA SP.
Yes, the DS and DS Lite do include the GBA hardware, or quite a bit of it. When playing GB/C games, it behaves much like my GBA SP.
Edit: Then again, I could be wrong about the Lite. I thought I remembered testing Tetris and one or two other GB games on my sister's Lite... but I also vaguely remember hearing something about the GB/C hardware being cut from the Lite or thereabout to help keep the Lite smaller/thinner, etc. I'll have to check. The GB/C games definitely do play with no problems on my original-model DS, though.
