I didn't know that either.

I prefer Bowser's Catle/dark land. I like the rocket ships, tanks, and the lava ships the most.

I eventually realized that the islands were in pipe formations, but it took me years as well.

Something I didn't notice until I read it at TMK is that the castle in World 3 is on an island chain that looks like Japan, with the castle at the position of Kyoto, where Nintendo is headquartered.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't notice the shape of Pipe Maze. Anyway, I've always liked Giant Land/Big Island the most for some reason. I guess The Sky would be my second favorite, but I really like all of them quite a bit, so it's not easy choosing favorites.

I always thought Giant Land was fun... especially with the giant pumps, enemies, etc. =D

Second on my list is Ice Land, which is pretty cool albeit annoying =/

No love for World 9?

I honestly can't pick between Pipe Maze or Giant Land... although the water music in SMB3 was really damned good.

I've got a few interesting memories of Ice Land, too... but I never really saw it as much.

You can get there right away if you use one (and only one) before you go to World 2

You can? I thought it sent you to a place in level 9 deppending on which world you were in, so it went World 1 -> 2, 3, 4 -> 5, 6, 7 -> 8.

Either way, you get two whistles in world 1, so you can still get to world 7 no matter what.

If you use a whistle from World 1, that's the only way you can get to 2, 3, or 4.

Using a whistle when you're already in the Warp Zone takes you to World 8. I think that's also true if you use it in World 7 or 8 although I'm not sure. Otherwise, you get 5, 6, and 7 as your choices.

I believe this is how it works... so you can't get to 5, 6, or 7 from World 1, but you can get to 2, 3, 4, and 8 if you use both.

My favourite world was always Warp Zone.

Yeah, I didn't care for SMB3 that much compared to the rest :|

I dunno, SMB3 always gave me this feeling of unrealised potential. They did all these potentially really cool things (all the suits, koopa kids, etc) and most of it was squandered.

The world map type system was done better in both World and Kirby's Adventure, while Super Mario Bros used what it had a lot better.

Not to say it's a bad game or anything, I just didn't get it so to speak. It's like having a good meal, but the dessert is one bite or something.

This seems a little harsh... sure they had elements that could have been used more (Kuribo's Shoe comes to mind), but SMB3 is still really I think one of the best games out there...

But I do kind of see what you're saying with SMB1... SMB3 seems comfortably within its limits than trying to push them... makes one wonder what could have happened if Nintendo had decided to make an SMB2j equivalent.

You know that one fortress in World 8? With all the conveyor platforms and other annoying shit?

That'd be the second level.
