Very interesting indeed.

I guess there was a good reason for re-releasing all the Star Wars movies in 3D.

Awesome

I think a while back, there were supposed to be Episodes VII-IX, but for whatever reason that plotline ended up being squished into VI instead.

I'll give Lucas credit for the ideas and the universe he created but if he is directing and writing these movies, then they will repeat the same mistakes the prequel trilogy did. I rather have someone else handle the screenplay and directing duties. Lucas' head is too bloated to do anything aside from coming up with the concepts.

Lucas is going to make a new trilogy someday and fuck around with everything that has happened for maximum profit!

I anticipate the EU will be ignored entirely, thus producing plenty of fodder for internet forum arguments long into the future...

Even though they should just make the Thrawn trilogy. Or maybe somehow compress the New Jedi Order? No, there's no way to crush 19 books into 3 movies. Hmm...

Edit: The Jedi Academy series combined with the Thrawn trilogy, maybe?

But everyone that eventually is going to spew e-hatred towards them will see each movie at least twice in the theaters.

I really don't care what George does at this point. The only thing I haven't been involved in is the Clone Wars saga on CN. I could not get in to them. And besides not playing some of the games. But I've read just about every book (I need to catch up since I've recently been reading Feist) and I still love all 6 movies. The originals are the heart and soul but the new 3 brought in a whole new generation and I'm hoping thats what the 3D re-releases do in 2012.

From the post at Gizmodo it says that it won't be about the Skywalkers. We'll probably get a new family to follow that is somehow tied to one of the other EU characters, such as Kyle Katarn or Corran Horn. That would be fine, as long as it somehow ties in other famous EU persona.

Did they ever do anything with the Thrawn trilogy, beyond perhaps the comic books? I'd always wondered if they weren't just going to do CG movies based on the books, at some point.

To be honest, I'd rather these movies just not get made. Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi are all solid pictures that spark the imagination and thrill the concept of the mind. The prequels were just Lucas messing around with a computer. Yes, the whole series is based off of adventure serials from the 30's and 40's that played before movies in parts, meaning it's supposed to make you feel like you've missed some things. That and the opening title scroll thing comes directly from Flash Gordon. The original trilogy as it's called now, created a story arch that completes itself over the course of three films. The prequels do this as well, there really wasn't a need for them, but at least they provide back story for those who wanted to know. However they ruin a lot of the aspects that made the older movies more magical, like explaining a biological reason behind the force.

Where would these new movies have to go in terms of plot? Sure the series went in literally thousands of different directions after these movies were made, going even as far back as the dawn of Jedis and to the end of the galaxy. What plot could they possibly have to go from after Vader and the Empire are gone and Luke and company have returned to their homes? It just won't work.

Well let's just say I'm not too impressed with George Lucas' chops at actually making movies his way. Now if they brought back the setup that produced the original movies, maybe.

But Lucas on his own like this? I expect maximum suckage. :p

I didn't find the prequels that terrible, just awkwardly written and inconsistent.

I won't say that this will be terrible, but it will definitely lack the power of the other ones. And his is merciful, because I still consider myself a die-hard Star Wars fan.
