I think there were 2 other threads about the movie but I wanted to make 1 centralized thread that I can add to.

So the latest that was announced a few days ago is that Martin Freeman has been cast for Bilbo Baggins in the upcoming Hobbit films. Whats really funny is that word spread that he had turned down the role for Bilbo.

He definitely looks the part and will hopefully portray the original actor's mannerisms enough to complete the effect.

They had problems about filming in New Zealand, but that as been resoulved.

And a former Doctor is set to play one of the wizards.

Gees this movie is turning into Duke Nukem Forever. I am glad that Peter Jackson is back to directing it though, and I'm cautiously optimistic that production will soon be underway (finally!)

Ian McKellen confirmed to reprise Gandalf. I didn't have any doubts, but it is good to know its set in ink. And just before that, Andy Serkis signed on to play Gollum again. Filming begins next month!

It is now safe to say that the Hobbit movies are going to kick ass. Day 1 ticket secured for me!

I liked the Hobbit more than the main books, and the movies of the main books made me fall asleep like they did. So this should be excellent, since they should manage to get the interesting bits shown in the Hobbit done faithfully just like they did with the main books.

And thus the movie will be interesting to me.
