I always liked Giant Land for some reason I tended to get pissy about missing it when warping to World 5 after being frustrated with World 2. I also like Ice Land and Pipe Land a lot.

Tough choice, but I'll go with World 3. I love tropical settings!

And I know the worlds by a different set of names. They're mostly similar, but the one that stands out the most is "Koopahari Desert" for world 2. Not sure where they came from, but certainly not the game.

Oceanside.

That said, World 6 is the most memorable to me... because it's the last one I was able to clear every level in.

The NES Game Atlas, and possibly other Nintendo guides, used a rather odd mix of the PRG0 ROM and PRG1 ROM names (listed above) with some new ones like "Koopahari Desert".

Sky Land was my favorite ever since I played it the first time and found out there was a whole different section to it... (as the first few times I had played SMB3 and gotten far in it I had warped past it) That was actually rather unexpected, so it was neat.

I always thought Giant Land was pretty cool, but it didn't seem to keep the theme for very long.

Loved the world 3 music. :3

World 4 would have been pretty cool if it were better executed... but right now it's kind of disappointing.

World 5 is easily the best. What with having Kuribo's shoe, alternate paths to a tower that takes you to an entirely new map, etc... If only there was another connection between the sky and land maps for a secret area, it would have been perfect.

World 6 used to be my favorite. I guess becouse of the dungeons and some levels.
World 7... would have been more awesome if it wasn't, ironically, so linear. That said there are some awesome levels there too, with some emphasis on puzzles.

Then there's world 8. Besides the actual stages in the dark area, everything else is pretty memorable. Specially that one rocket-powered airship level.
The actual stages would've been memorable if they were worked on a little more. An forest or a desert at night/underground are pretty good ideas that aren't anywhere else at all... but they felt pretty unfinished.

Hey now. I liked Pipe Land. Give it a little love even though it was unfair at points.

giant land is easily the most memorable.

However, I've always had a thing for the cold, so ice land is a close second.

I would say the Sky World, but there are a couple levels I hate in it, so... Desert World!

Pipe Maze used to be my ultimate favorite world! You could get the hammer suit there, the levels were fun, you could get infinite lives in that one castle, it had mazes, and when you cleared the Koopa Kid you got that flashing letter from Bowser that scared the crap out of me the first time I played it! A close second was Castle of Koopa. When I was a kid though, I always found the dark world to be too hard and scary, so I never warped there unless I knew I was prepared with plenty of items.

Now though, Castle of Koopa is definitely my favorite world! Pipe Maze seems too short now, and I've played it to death so the mazes aren't fun anymore. I agree that world 8 does seem unfinished in parts, and I wish there was more to it, but I just love the atmosphere so much! IMO, this is the bowser world modern games have to live up to. When I get to the dark world in any other game, I want it to feel like I've just entered a black hell from which there is no escape. All of the Dark World's we've gotten since have felt way to cheerful to me. I want my sky to be pitch black dammit! Plus you can easily leave them whenever you please. In this game, its like once you've made it to the dark world, you better finish the motherfucker in one sitting because you can't even warp out of there to get more items, and quitting now means starting EVERYTHING over, so Bowser is going down even if it takes all night! Even though I've palyed Castle of Koopa to death by now, to the point where even the super fast airship is easy without a p-wing, it's still loads of fun to play and brings back a lot of memories of trying to get my way through it late at night.

I never liked world 3; I HATED world 3. The music seemed so depressing, your special item was the crappy useless frog suit, you had to deal with that man eating fish in 3-8, Jellyfish in 3-5, and a bunch of other stupid bullshit in every other level. I always used my clouds in world 3 so I could skip as much as possible. The only good thing about it was that you could get a lot of items here, especially once you got the canoe, but the whole world just felt like a depressing chore.

Giant land though was pretty damn fun after that! That was my favorite after worlds 8 and 7 and still is. I always skipped world 5 for the longest time because I thought it was just that one map. It wasn't until I played the sky castle, got to the second map, and fell in love with the tanooki suit and kuribo's shoe that The Sky earned a place in my heart. It still has levels I can't stand though, so it's a love/hate thing. I never did like the ice world because as a kid I thought the slipperier physics made it too hard. I like it better now though just because it's probably the world I know the least, so it has the most replay value.

Grass and Desert are ok, it's just that you play those worlds to death in order to get anywhere so they're nothing special after a while.

Loved the music in Giant Land, and loved the idea as well. Second place probably goes to world 5 though, since

My favorite world is by far Pipe Land. I feel it had some of the most creative and complex levels in the game, plus it was fairly long which is always a bonus. I also like it because I feel that it's the most difficult world in the game, Dark Land was just full of (mostly) auto scrollers that once you've beat once you could beat a million times.

My favorite is Pipe World, mostly because of the vertical screen wrap levels. Those are definitely my favorite levels.

You know, until just a year ago or so, I never noticed the islands in Pipe Maze were shaped like three giant pipes.
