When there's a remake of a game announced, like Pokémon Fire Red, or an HD reboot type thing being available for the PSN or XBLA, like Earthworm Jim HD, do you buy/download it? Is it worth it to play the same game again in essence? Personally, if it's something like Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, I'll download it for nostalgic purposes, (Plus that game had music ocremix) but is there too much of a reason to play them other than they look or sound new?

Depends on the game for me. If I really liked the game and/or it has sentimental value, then I'll pick it up.

I've bought a lot of them, mostly the portable Mario and Zelda remakes for the added content and to play them on the go

Some of them were rather disappointing though, especially in the "added content" category. Mario Bros. 4 times, e-Reader required for the SMB3 extras...

Not always, but usually.

If I loved the original game, I'll probably get any remakes. The only remakes I never bothered with were Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen and Emerald for some reason.

I bought YI on VC and beat it 100% in one sitting, but I was quite happy.

I guess I usually don't buy remakes, unless I haven't played the original game... there are exceptions now and then though, especially if it's a portable version of a game that the original was on console (because being able to play the game "on the go" without having to take up the TV... less of an issue now, though)

But something like Fire Red is unlikely for me to buy... The one time I tried to play through Fire Red, I lost interest fairly quickly... (which is kind of odd actually, given that I've played through Red version multiple times and didn't lose interest then)

Paulguy's Post configuration
If it's a game I like for a portable I have, I probably would, but most of them I can jus tplay on my computer or their original console or an emulator on a handheld. VC isn't too useful to me, since I get the same experience through bsnes or nestopia or kega fusion and etc.

I buy compilations more than I buy remixes, and even so, I'm still very picky when it comes to remixed titles, and also, I only get them as a disc or cartridge, no downloadables as with everything else.

Only if I like the game. Metroid: Zero Mission is a good example.

Depends how well the game's remade. Remakes with added content or welcome changes to the game mechanics hold more appeal for me than just a splash of paint.

Depends on the game and content of the remake. And the convenience - though I have Paper Mario on the N64, I plan to eventually get it on the Wii VC just to be able to play all three on one system. And with a non-shitty controller.

A Yoshi's Island port needs no upgrades for me, same if we ever get Front Mission 3 on PSN (Europe did, come on Square...) A collection's also a likely purchase for me, again for the convenience.

To me I will only get a remake if;
1) It is portable (Like the Super Mario Advance games)
2) It has added advancements (Like with Super Mario 64 DS)
3) I never got the chance to play the original
4) I actually feel that I would like the game
5) They added something that was previously in the original game coding which I had no idea what it would have been used for (a little bit like the whole Stop and Swap thing for the Banjo games)

If three out of the five things on that list are met, then I probably already own it

Usually not. A gameboy/DS port isn't that appealing to me since I usually play at home anyway. If enough extra content is added (Fire Red) or there are significant improvements in graphics and sound quality (All-Stars) though, then I might make an exception. 3D Ocarina of Time sounds intriguing...

Well Serious Sam HD is on my Steam account, so that's a yes.
Aside from that, there's really not much. I have a port (read: emulation) of Sonic 1 that I paid $5 for, too.

I own 4 different versions of both the original Zelda and Link to the Past.

So yes.

Edit: Though I hate it when they change gameplay. Pretty up the graphics if you want (I guess), but leave the gameplay alone!

If it's an updated version with additionnal content, sure.

And by additionnal content, I don't mean "lol hd graphix"

So stuff like what Atlas does with Persona, I don't mind buying.

I dunno, if it's a good improvement in the graphics but the gameplay remains the same, I'd say it's worth it. I know the popular opinion around here is to not care about graphics, but there's nothing wrong with improving the graphics if it doesn't hurt the rest of the game. But as I mentioned before, I wouldn't get it unless it's for a handheld or something that can't be easily emulated (Even Wii/PS2 remakes of 2D games that remain 2D would play on a lot of modern computers, as well as DS games.).

If it's what MZM was to NEStroid then I'd buy it any time of the day. :p

Also, I picked up alttp for the GBA only for the multiplayer game.
...I do like some of the changes to make gameplay better though, but the added voice instead of the sword swinging SFX really ruins it all. :/

...I still don't get why people loathe voices like the SMA series/LTTP port got added so much.

As for me... it depends, as well. I bought the whole SMA series since, well, at the time my mother was pretty against me setting up the NES for whatever reason (probably since I had my N64). Not just that, but... they were portable! I still have some pretty damn fond memories of the first and second Super Mario Advance games.

I tend to find the gratuitous voice acting rather annoying. Especially in LTTP, where the sword voice sounds to me like a squawking chicken.

I buy remakes of stuff,
usually because I've never played the original version

It happened a lot with the gba though --

* some of the nes collection
* Pokemon Firered
* Link to the Past with fouswords
* Super Mario Advance games
* Donkey Kong Country(s)

yep, so I have no issue with remakes or even a straight port
