My dad's bike was recently stolen right out of my backyard (a fairly expensive bike less than a year old). I had got my bike out for a ride and when I got back I left it beside the shed where I always do. I went into my basement to play SNES and everything seemed fine. My parents and sister came home and everything still seemed ok. I did some homework and around 3:30 I went on the internet. Around 4:30 my dad ran up to my room and asked "do you know where my bike is?"...

Yep, the bike is gone now and chances are that we'll never see it again. The weirdest thing is that my bike was beside the shed and there were 3 bikes inside it (including my dads). After my dad came to me I went to the backyard and mine, my sisters and my moms bikes were all lined up just outside the shed because they needed to get to the back of the shed to get my dad's bike. I'm surprised for a few reasons...

1. The bikes were stolen without anyone noticing (including neighbors we asked about it).

2. That some one actually went into my backyard and just took it (although it's not like it's never happened to anyone before***it's just never happened to my family).

3. That they only took my dads bike.

So I feel partly to blame because if it wasn't for my bike being out no one probably would of even gone into our backyard and opened the shed. I ticks me off to think that someone would actually steal my dads bike though, I guess you don't really know how it feels until it happens to you.

*** I got a phone call from a police officer asking for information about the bike while making this thread.

I don't really think it's your fault in any way. No one going by your house and seeing your bike will just have a passing fancy to steal a bike. And a different one than the one they saw even. No, I just think your family is a victim of misfortune and you have nothing to blame yourself for.

That said, sorry to hear some jackass stole your dad's bike. Being stolen from sucks, even if the things stolen from me years back can't compare to what was stolen from you. The bike actually had pratical usage. For me, the trading cards stolen from me were just that--trading cards.

Personally, I'd just be glad that's all they decided to steal, rather than trying to blame yourself. Years ago my own bike got stolen (but oddly, none others, even though it was behind a 7' fence) ... nothing else, oddly.

But yeah, one bike isn't that much to replace, compared to three or four. Just remember to keep things locked up next time, and try not to linger too much on what happened

Thanks for the advice.

I'm not thinking about it to much anymore although it still puzzles me greatly. It's opened up my eyes though and as Xkeeper said I'll make sure I keep things locked. So yes I am glad that they only took one bike (although I'm guessing they rode it away because if they had a vehicle they probably would of taken the other bikes instead of just taking them out of the shed and leaving them).

Check local pawn shops. They might have turned it in there for money.

When my bike was stolen, my dad checked some of the local shops. Never got it back. Thing is, it was stolen by the kid who lived across the street from me. I had to be driven to work and when I got there, the people who stole it had it on the back of their trunk at the gas station next door. But the was nothing I could have done about it at the time.

We got our car stolen, my step dad had his wallet in it, said wallet got found in Nova Scotia (or further, not sure, but we live in Quebec, so it's not the same province)

EDIT: Also, finding stolen stuff is hard, and probably won't happen.

We had actually tried that although by the time we thought of that it all the pawn shops around here were closed. Another problem is that thanks to ebay it could be sold on the internet instead of being pawned.

That's why I keep my 21-speed indoors...as in its own room in the catch-all. I'd never leave my bike outside just for the sheer fact that this would happen.

That said, I bet the air in my tires are low due to not being used.

Is it the latest? I thought it was second-to-last.

Besides, watching the whole Limozeen vs. sloshy was better to watch anyways...if it's watching.

Thieves fucking suck. They seem to like me, too. If I leave something unattended, odds are it gets stolen. >:[

I had my Gameboy Color stolen when I was younger, which sucked... since then I've been a lot more careful. (and my bike lock disappeared once- the situation looked like theft, but why would someone steal a bike lock and not the bike attached to it?)

Unbelievable! I just got a call from my dad who is now at a pawn shop that has his bike. He has to wait for a police officer to show up.The owner of the shop said that my dad might have to pay to get it back (which I think is completely unfair considering it was stolen...). The owner of the shop knows who brought the bike in so it seems like the thief will be caught as well.

Oh this reminds me, last day, I was at work for 9 hours, and totally forgot to lock my bike.

But it was still there.
