When I had my homebrew'd PSP, it ran just about any Playstation ISO I could throw at it. I had all the Final Fantasy games on it at some point in time, including Final Fantasy Tactics long before they released War of the Lions. Thats the one thing I miss was how well it played those games and being so portable.

I have yet to jailbreak my iPhone (I updated to 4.1, stupid me) and get the PSX for iPhone app from Cydia. But this peripheral would be perfect for it since I'm not too thrilled about the touchscreen controls that I've seen. But sometime soon, War of the Lions is supposed to be released natively on iOS anyway and thats the main PSX game I want.

Ready for a huge anti-Apple rant, guiez?

Once again, this is another example of uptight Apple users trying to use their iPhones for things they shouldn't be using them for.

iPhone gaming is a complete joke, and really is meant for dimwitted Apple followers. The only reason it gets the third-party support it gets is because the third parties know that Apple users will buy just about everything that comes their way. Plus, it is my understanding that Apple has a tight grip on which revision of the SDK is usable on the iPhone, meaning you need to have a Mac to make iPhone development not a complete pain in the ass.

The touch-screen-only controls just further proves my point. Is it possible at all to have any kind of complex (or traditional) gameplay in place when all you can do is tap the screen? Lemmings does come to mind, but in that regard, Lemmings is a lot like chess: you plan your moves, execute them one piece at a time, and just watch what happens. If you want serious gaming? There are some serious drawbacks if you're using the iPhone, all mentioned in this thread: My bigass thumbs cover the screen (just as bad as having a huge status bar blocking half the screen), and when they're not covering the screen, I'm shaking and twisting the iPhone to try to suggest to the accelerometers that I want to possibly turn the vehicle at some point in time if the iPhone were feeling comfortable with it.

Literally, the only practical type of gaming for the iPhone is casual gaming. Anything that strives to go beyond that is just a big waste of time.

Besides, everyone I know who likes to play games on their iPhone always complains that the battery's just about to run out. I guess they don't need to make calls after all, huh?

Heh, yeah, this is why my phone is an ancient 2005 Nokia brick, with no real games on it.

What's the purpose of gaming with touch-screen controls when you have the choice of so many button-based ones?

And my phone is a cheap LG Tracfone that cost $10 and has pretty lousy quality. I don't like texting, as pushing buttons multiple times for whatever letter in a layout I'm not used to typing with is rather annoying.

T9 was cool once I figured out how to get it to stop giving me "ypu" instead of "you".

It had a couple of other typos too, that I've since fixed.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Well the thing about phones is they're basically the strongest devices as far as processing power goes that are also handheld. Stuff like palm and all that have mostly lost popularity and aren't top of the line performers, so they're the perfect platform to port emulators and other older games to, and have a reasonably open (compared to PSP/DS) platform as well (Pandora, Android, not so much Apple.). Also very practical for general purpose applications.

I would like to see a phone that could run a desktop linux with X11 and standard programs... but it's not to the telephone company's benefit to allow that. No way they could push stupid ad shit on you in a way that you can't easily remove it.
