Well, well, well.

Dizzler is (aparrently) a new "media conglomo site"; that is, it tries to basically stuff everything into one nice package for you. Pretty nice at first glance.

Tons of media you can browse, games, movies, whatever.

Just one problem... it's mostly illegal. Oh, and a bandwidth hog -- it's supposedly "ad-supported"... execpt that the support only goes to Dizzler, not the people whose bandwith they rip off.

How do I know they're ripping people off? I recently disabled my server, and since I had the window open, I noticed a lot of weird requests:

At first, not noticing the referrer, I just figured someone found my tunes folder. No big deal, I'll just hide the content I guess.

Wait, what? It's from some site? What the...

Okay, let's browse... hm, only say that it indexes things, but it doesn't say where, or how, or antyhig -- just that you type osmething in and instantly get streaming results.

So, seeing this... "Let's try something obscure that'll obviously return something."

> armcannon

"Armcannon Zelda" is one of the results. Clicking it, sure enough -- 5 quick accesses from this, with no information of where the file is actually stored or any other information, just "Sorry, try another":

No metadata or anything else... Just the title and a play button.

In short, this service is basically a scam to rip off every real content provider and try to put their name over it, much like Ebaumsworld.

So, in short, tell your friends not to use this piece of shit, help me figure out what I can do (aside from, naturally, removing their access.).

Other than hiding it and robots-txt, not that I know of.

If you see it cropping up in logs, move it.

Does OmniSecure support Access Control Lists?

EDIT:
It does.
Here's how to set it up.
Go to Security, click "User and Directory".
Then, go to Access Control Lists and click New. Make the path a forward slash "/".
The next realm thing, I don't know what it does but just leave it at default.
Go into the properties of the "/" and go to Site Permissions and add this IP to the Deny List: 66.232.150.219
That and "www.dizzler.com" should work.

I actually went and took a look at their FAQ (or lack thereof), and it's just riddled with careless typographical and grammatical errors.

The fun part is that there's no mention of how they "index" their content. Whoops, didn't notice Xk already checked. Doh.

Yeah, looking at your logs Xkeeper, you may have to add more IP's as you spot them. If DNS works though (Which it should) then the www.dizzler.com should just about block all of their IPs.

Drag's Post #241
All of my music is either OGG or MID, so I don't think I'm in danger of having my stuff ripped off. I already tried searching, and nothing from my site shows up, thank goodness. (Well, except for stupidsongddr, but that's because they got it from you )

Or maybe dreamhost blocks this bullshit? I dunno.

Blocking their referrer would do the job for now, but I'm sure they'll change it soon. IP blocking seems like the way to go then.

I had a similar problem crop up with my server about a month ago. Had to change my domain in the end; that, and blocking all bots with robots.txt... that's all the time I wanted to spend on the problem.

Daily Cycle II ~ 3340

Your server is streaming music from my server without permission, and without any notice of where the bandwith is being provided from, nor any reimbursement for bandwidth your software is wasting.

I demand all entries pointing to the IP address 67.185.98.31 or any DNS entry resolving to it be removed immediately.

It's been two weeks, and I'm still getting requests for files (they're moved), so I sent them the above.

I am not happy anymore. I only wish I could do more.
