That's because Valve wanted free updates for it and Microsoft was like "No you must charge for it."

They were lucky for the free L4D campaign to be released on there.

There are a number of people out there obsessed with getting that unusual hat. I've gotten some nice stuff out of trading crates because of it.
I'm holding onto most of my crates in case keys do eventually drop

I've got to say this update is magnificent in the long run: ton's of alternate playstyle items with decent tradeoff.

I tried the "Your Eternal Reward" in one match and got around a 6 man death streak before eventually being found out. joyous day.

As for crates, I won't buy keys until I get a ton of crates. The crates, like name tags and paint, are only as valuable as you perceive them

There is a rumor that 8-12 crates crafted will make a Pile O' Gifts. Not confirmed AFAIK.

Sounds like a fair trade to me, unlike the polycount hat recipes ( too much crafting IMO ), but it is what it is.

I just wish they had the set recipes out by now

In the store it is worth 99 cents.

In game you won't be trading that for anything. Just duel with friends or whoever. You both will get dueling badges if you duel.

Rare stuff is Paint and Hats. More rare is White Paint (which I uncrated once) and Black Paint. Even rarer are Unusual Hats.

Duel-Mini Games aren't rare so much as they can be used 5 times before being depleted.

I tried playing a few days ago, but it's acting funny since the update. It greets me with "Welcome back, Unknown" and won't let me even look for servers because it says I need Steam Beta to be running.

Edit: This is my laptop, so mac version.

Also I am building up my skills as a mean Medic. I heal often, and when in trouble I play battle Medic. I must be doing something right as I end up second or third in my team, sometimes even first.
