I'm set up with a different team, so I won't be able to help you guys if so.

I'm their Engineer, so all I have to do is practice turtling.

New update out. All Polycount winners added, and... The Mannconomy Update adds in a shop to promote the new Steam Wallet feature (which looks superb, by the way), item trading (!), and item customization options.

YEEEAAAHHH

Do any of you have the Scout's batter helmet? I'll trade my Heavy helmet for it.
It's the only hat I've ever wanted~

There is also a catalog of every item in the game.

New items seem to include random presents that give random items out to any one person on the server you are on or a variation of that which gives up to 23 others a random item.

Plus Mann Co chests and keys and name tags for renaming items you own and paint buckets for coloring items.

So which one of you is going to be the first to admit that you just dropped $30-40 into your Steam Wallet to purchase items?

*still has not played TF2*

No I didn't buy the fish!

I uncrafted my rifined metal into 3 reclaimed metals and use done of the reclaimed metals with the useless sandman to make a fish.

I did buy the new sniper riffle though...

OK. See, I can kinda understand using those funds to buy a rifle since that's an essential part of your killing survival kit. A fish... not so much.

In case you haven't heard, Robin said something about being able to craft Polycount hats in the near future, so that you aren't basically forced to buy them to get the set bonuses. The Pyro pack is really good I hear.

I got my batter's helmet pretty quickly, which is absolutely delightful. I also got the cheater's lament despite being a dirty idler. Now all I need to do is find that Pyro brain slug and then I can die~

Yeah, one of my friends who idled to get a Camera Beard way back when was surprised to receive one as well when he traded items. A bug in the system? Or are they being more forgiving now?

I hope to play some this weekend. Watch out! >:3

The hats are a lot like the backgrounds and such in GunBound and Pangya -- an easy way to show that you (now) have a lot of money, or a lot of luck.

I don't really mind the store just because you can still get everything the old-fashioned way.

Ok, I picked up TF2 recently and I'm running into a lot of problems. A LOT. That's an understatement. I've also run into these problems on EVERY game that runs on the Source Engine it seems.

First problem is loading screens, these are absolutely ridiculous. They take four or five minutes. The same thing happened with Alien Swarm and HalfLife 2. I think I even had it with Portal but I don't recall as it's been awhile. It seems that 60% of the time the loading screens don't even complete and just sit at a black screen when the loading bar hits 75%.

The only map I've managed to get into is the training mission. When I did, it looked like this:
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/5049/thisisntright.jpg

I tried playing around with it even in this acid trip state. I could move around just fine, but then it told me to shoot a rocket at a target. As soon as I did, my entire computer crashed and rebooted.

I don't understand it, my PC meets the minimum requirements for this but it's absolutely awful and doesn't work 90% of the time. I've got over an hour and a half of minutes logged on this game already and I haven't even gotten to try it yet. All that time has been spent on waiting through loading screens and adjusting settings (which are all set on minimum by the way)

I've tried common fixes that are supposed to make the game run but things haven't been improving. At the moment I'm waiting on getting my steam forums account validated so I can ask for help, but it's been several hours since I signed up and I'm beginning to think they banned my forum account cause people keep reregging to put bullshit flames on the TF2 board specifically. So until then, any suggestions?

One thing I remember about Alien Swarm was that someone gave me a .cfg file to put in the directory the game is stored in that fixed nearly every issue. I've since uninstalled Alien Swarm and don't have that file so I can't look at it to make any guesses of what to change.

Basic troubleshooting for video errors:

- Do you have another video card for testing purposes? This might be the quickest way to check if it's the video card or something else.

- Video drivers are up to date?

- Does your video card overheat too much, if under pressure (I really don't know how much resources TF2 uses, especially if many people are on the screen at the same time)? Try running a monitoring tool while playing the game (before the computer locks up and/or reboots), I can recommend GPU-Z for instance, it uses like no resources and shows the temperature on the "Sensors tab". Alien Swarm is known to heat up certain video cards. You could also open up the case and carefully remove any dust. Just make sure to to unplug your machine and fixate the fans, if you plan to use a vacuum cleaner. Creating current by induction using extremely fast rotating fans could theoretically destroy your motherboard otherwise.

- Is the video card's RAM faulty? You could try running something like FurMark. Always watch the temperatures; if you get artifacts, there might be something bad like defective VRAM.

- Check your Event Log, it might show critical errors, although it may not be too reliable, if the computer freezes before it can submit an error message to it. Just check for regular and critical errors at the timestamps, when your computer freezes.

You also might consider checking your system memory using memtest86+ for several hours straight. But these graphical glitches seem to be issues from the video card. On the other hand remote diagnosis might be impossible.

Nope. A big cockblock here is that I'm running on a laptop with integrated graphics.

Yes.

My video card doesn't overheat much. I'm able to run WoW on high settings without experiencing much in the way of slowdowns or extra heat.

Doesn't look like it. TF2 is the only 3D game I have where textures fail to load correctly, so I doubt that's it.

I'm seeing very little. It's telling me my computer's memory usage at the time of the crash spikes to 100%, which doesn't make sense. (this is an earlier crash, one that didn't bring my whole computer down with it, btw). I was monitoring memory usage in Taskmanager and it showed 76% free memory at the time of that specific crash.

Ehh... I'll give it a week of further testing and more fixes before I finally give up. If it doesn't work by then, I could try using my desktop, though I'm not sure how Steam handles that. I heard they only allow one digital copy of the game per account, so...

If everything fails, at least I got it while it was cheap and I'm only $10 in the hole instead of $20.

That's not gonna run TF2 unless it's a very expensive, high end laptop.

Anyone been buying stuff from the store? I'm really tempted to crack open these crates
