I hate when I think NumLk is on but it isn't and then I have to turn it on.

I picked up a habit long ago from playing Everquest where I would hit Num Lock to turn it off then hit the up arrow then hit Num Lock again to turn it back on. The reason was Num Lock was auto run but I hated finding that it was left off so I would hit the up arrow to stop auto run and then hit Num Lock again so I wouldn't leave it off.

I almost never enter numbers with the keypad, but on this laptop, the keypad is the only place with Home, End, Page Up, or Page Down.

Mostly if I'm otherwise using the keypad, it's for ROM hacking or level editing utilities. I guess most ROM hackers have desktop computers, as editing levels on laptops tends to be a pain.

I love using the num pad, be it lappy or otherwise.

I always leave Num Lock on... although I only really use the numeric keypad if I'm emulating an old console that uses a numeric keypad, or using SpeedCrunch, or something else that relies on it. =P

I leave my numlock on,
but it's really just because I don't use the keys that are there when it's off.

I use the End key a lot to browse boards if I want to access mostly the last few posts, so when Num Lock is on, it doesn't work. And sometimes that Firefox bug of scrolling the previous tab accessed to the bottom, instead of the current one, surfaces

I feel awkward using a laptop without a numpad.

How many laptops have that? I've only seen netbooks without numpads, but never a laptop.

Most laptops I've used have no numpad. Often, there's one overlaid in the main keyboard with the FN, Num Lock, or whatever keys to kind of activate its use. Those are annoying. They're worse when programs like Civ I turn on Num Lock, assuming a desktop keyboard, and some of the letters don't work right

I never called a netbook a netbook. To me, it's still a laptop.

Linux seems to have trouble with NumLock. It turns off when doing certain things, and occasionally manages to be off with the LED still on.

There's also ScrlLock which I can't even turn on...

Laptops with built-in numpads are fairly recent, as far as I've seen. In fact, numpads didn't become common until netbooks did.

Right now, I have more laptops with built-in printers than laptops with built-in numpads.

I'd love to see more folding in laptops. Open it up and unfold a full-size keyboard, two large flat speakers or additional half-screens next to the main screen... wonder if there'd be room to stick a mini-mouse inside somewhere? There's also a fair bit of unused space to attach things to the back of the screen.

Really I'd love to see one with a large solar cell folding out from the back of the screen, but I guess those aren't light and efficient enough to be worthwhile.
