Yea, could see this coming after they started the whole terabyte disc deal but it seems it's gone further now.

Holographic Video by 2009.

This was the original spot I proposed.

"...and real-time processing at a rate of several hundred petaflops."

I never knew technical jagon could be so funny.

This kinda' sucks because My dad and I were eyeing a certain TV we were thinking of getting for my mom's birthday. (I think he just wants a present for himself...) I can't really seem to picture a Holographic 3D TV though.

One day, in the not too distant future, Numa Numa will pop out of your screen like never before!

... Hurry up with that human extinguisher, guys.

Full-wall projection systems are more likely to become commonplace than 3DTV.

Except that, for those that bother to read, this is only a one-person deal. (Explicitly, "you don't get that communal experience with this")

Basically Imax for one.

So it requires even more bandwidth than UHDV, and even that is hard to believe we'll have real-time capability by 2009.

Maybe at the start...but I figure that someone will eventually try for holographic design over wall-projection.

All I'm saying is seeing something like this in action after they're already boasting about 1.6TB discs of these Maxell/Hitachi hybrids they keep speaking of...it'd be nice to see if it's really as cracked up as they seem to think or if it's just all on paper.

I mean considering if this got too in-depth and good it'd like blow a person's mind by graphical detail...literally; you'd probably get a massive headache.

I've found there's one simple rule for things like this. If it has "holographic" in its name, or promises cheap disks/RAM/processors/etc with capacity/processing power dozens of times that of current ones, it'll always be out "a few years from now". Problem being "now" is not the time they state this, but the current time.

Also:

One drawback is that the system has to track the viewer's eyes, which is done using two simple VGA cameras mounted on the display. This means you are not going to get the communal viewing experience of television.

: It can tell when you look away and pause the movie.
: It can tell when you look away during commercials and rat on you to Philips.
(BTW, is anyone else a bit spooked by the idea of two cameras constantly watching them when they watch TV?)

[insert rant about the use of apostrophes here.]

3-D effects already give massive headaches, since your mind requires a lot of effort to decode the depth.

I'll stick with 2D, thanks.

Oh well...

If nothing else...you'd get over-a-terabyte discs floating around that would likely scorch anyone's single hard disk here.

I should start wearing an eye patch, then, for everyday activities. After all, I almost always decode depth as I look at things. I feel no pain, but is that just the result of living my entire life with a 3D-related headache?

...Wrong button...
Anyways, I'd rather have the holographic thingy than the ultra-speed motion picture processors. At least then everyone could see how technology is progressing. (And not get angry at having bought an HDTV...)
