Color me cynical, but Other M is in some bizarre direction that doesn't seem recognizably metroid to me. I'm likely to skip it in favor of hoping another Prime-like game is made.

Close. A bug that requires yo to start again.

AFAIK, Prime and Prime 3 didn't have one. However, Echoes had a game-ending glitch. In the room where you have to shoot the sonic locks to get to a portal, if you leave the room without shooting them all, they lock up and you can't continue.

Oh, did you know that all the cut-scenes put together make 1 1/2 hours, thats the same length of a full-length movie.

I'm tempted to watch them now

Same here. They changed far too much. It's not a bad game, but it's not a great game either.

Well, you knew Yahtzee was going to have his say on the game.

On the plus side, he liked the "vastly superior" Metroid Prime.

(And I *STILL* need to play BOTH games. ARGH.)

I'm not surprised, though I never actually figured out the shape of the Bottleship. (It looks more like a wine bottle to me. )

My friend told me something funny/terrible.

"If Samus took orders from a hot female captain, people would be too busy drawing/looking at the fan art to complain."

---

In my personal opinion, this is a very good reason why Link should not have a voice, projecting oneself makes a deeper bond than the shattering of belief.

I'll admit. Everything he says is true. Maybe those reasons are why I've yet to be bothered to 100% it...

I noticed a lot of you agree that the Prime series is more fun (I prefer the side-scrolling compared to the first-person shooter, so I enjoyed Other M better), but did you know that the Prime series is only a side-quest and takes place after the very first metroid, in chronological order to the story line (Nintendo Power made a time-line in issue 255 June 2010).

The time-line goes:
Metroid - Metroid: Zero Mission - Metroid Prime - Metroid Prime Hunters - Metroid Prime 2: Echos - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - Metroid 2: Return of Samus - Super Metroid - Metroid: Other M - Metroid Fusion

... And that's it for now. (Well, there is Metroid Prime Pinball, but it is not part of the story. It's just inspired by the Prime lore.)

It's safe to say that we all knew this already

EDIT: It should be a slash between Metroid and Zero Mission, not a hyphen.

That, and Fusion was also better than it, so it isn't like it's the story alone bringing it down. Fusion had the same sort of pseudo-wacky story, but the controls were good.

The major difference is, I couldn't get into Fusion. I only ever got as far as Serris...

As far as Prime 1 goes, kill the Phazon Elite without collecting the Artifact of Warrior, leave and reload the area, then restart your save because it's gone forever. There's also a grapple point that stops working if you leave (it's somewhere in Phendrana, one of the big roundish cave rooms, where you shot down an icicle), but that only locks you out from getting an expansion of some kind (I think it's an energy tank, but I don't remember for sure). Needless to say, these were fixed in later revisions.

Fusion annoys me. It's still fairly enjoyable, but... that was just as wrong in terms of being a Metroid game as Other M is. At least Zero Mission let you ignore the big broad "GO HERE" markers.

I have the Players Choice, so I don't have that glitch. Plus, I've only ever gotten to that point in the Trilogy

I've never heard of that one

You can branch out in Metroid Fusion (AFAIK), but from what I hear, you can't go very far without heading to the next bit chronologically. I probably would've played Fusion more if it was a bit more loose.

You can only really do one or two things off the beaten path in fusion, and most of those are relatively difficult to pull off or unimportant; even with TASers or speedrunners, the game retains most of its shape.

But it's okay outside of that.

Problem is, Nintendo seems to have backed Metroid into a corner. The only thing they can do now is more prequel games.

They could easily go past Fusion. In fact, going past Fusion would be where the most interesting story could be. She's on the run from the Federation for not only disobeying order but also destroying major Federation property, and has no where (that we know of) to turn, her suit is technically fixed but still kinda in a strange state (what with being part Metroid now, Metroids are no longer a threat to her, the Etecoons and Dachoras are with her, there's just a bunch that I could see happening. Unfortunately, with Sakamoto at the wheel of the series, I'm afraid to see what will happen next. Give it back to Retro or take it out of Sakamoto's hands before it turns into something even worse.

Retro, definitely. Another Prime-style game would be awesome. Or even a Retro 2D game.

I agree with FirePhoenix. Nintendo could definitely make a sequel to Fusion, but like you other guys said, it needs to be made by a reliable company like Retro.

Time for more game facts...

Metroid and Zero Mission are two different games; Zero Mission is not quite a remake of the original. It is more like a continuation of the first game. Thats because after you beat Mother Brain, Samus is shot down by the space pirates and the story continues as Samus is now forced to run through the space pirate mother ship without her power-suit.

Now, I think the metroids will never truly die. That's because at the end of Fusion, you have to fight an Omega metroid, which means there were more metroids that were being experimented on. That also brings up the question, "will the metroid DNA inside Samus play a new role in the next game? For example: will the metroids, sensing the DNA inside her, treat her as one of them; or having the DNA of the metroid who drained Mother Brain of her powers, Samus finds out she can use Mother Brain's telepathy to control the metroids; or having the DNA inside her, Samus starts being controlled, just like the metroids, by a new Mother Brain(like a remake of MB)." There are so many possiblities.

It's a re-telling through Samus' eyes. That's why it'd be a slash. But, that's just me.

Got stuck because of the Sector 3 bug?

Nintendo's got your back, if you're willing to send them your save game on a SD card.

Really, you don't say. That particular Omega escaped from the Restricted Zone (after you leave, you start finding Metroid shells all over the place).

They could go any number of ways. Probably about 3/4 of them could be best described as a trainwreck, though.

Colin: Sounds like what they did for Pokemon Diamond/Pearl.
