I saw this trailer in 2D and I knew I had to see it.

Then I saw it in 3D and I was like OMFG. This is one movie that I really, really want to see in 3D.

I read most of the books when I was younger --

the first five(ish) of them were awesome,
but then they started to go down hill when the main characters changed

I'm going to be seeing this

Yeah I saw the trailer for this a while back in the theaters. This is another 3D movie that's immediately made it to my must see list! Damn, 2010 has been pretty good for me in the movie department, and it looks like its just gonna get better! I mean owls are awesome! How can a movie with owls be bad?

I wasn't sure about it at first, couldn't see the video from work. But after watching it, this looks pretty amazing. CG movies like this are much better for 3D since the rendering is done in 3D, not converted after filming like lots of movies have been doing. The scene with one of the owls flying through the rain would be amazing in 3D. This will be worth the $15.

Definitely want to see this in 3D. One theater here has matinee 3D shows for $10.50 which is like seeing a regular priced non-3D show. Although I want to see Resident Evil 3D first so this might have to wait a week or 2.

I'm about to see this in 3D in about an hour. I'm getting skeptical though. Runtime is only an hour and a half, and fan reviews so far are mixed. Maybe it will be like Avatar where the visuals are stunning but the plot is meh? Oh well, if the worst case scenario means it will just be awesome eye candy, then I say it still worth seeing. Alright movie, exceed my expectations

Edit: Just saw it. Exceeded my expectations! This is basically the movie you are expecting to see from the previews plus a little more. I definitely wouldn't call it the best movie I've ever seen, but I wasn't expecting it to be. The story is interesting and kind of makes me want to read the books. Unfortunately, this feels like a book that has been rushed to fit in an hour and a half with no time to really develop anything. The characters are all one dimensional, and the whole thing feels like its following the same pattern as Fellowship of the Ring. That said though, it doesn't really come off as generic, you can tell that a lot of effort went into this, and it doesn't dumb anything down for you. The story has obvious real themes, and it doesn't always do what you'd expect. So in short, if you think you might like this movie, you probably will, so go see it. Just don't expect it to be on par with Pixar or anything. It's definitely worth seeing at least once although I doubt I'll ever see this again.

Also, is it just me or does this movie have an obvious problem deciding if Owls are nocturnal or not? There are tons of scenes that are there just to show that the Owls are Nocturnal, but then they always seem to be active during the day so wtf?

Saw it last night and I enjoyed it.

Wrote up a little article on it here.

Oh yeah, the 3D in this thing is outstanding! The Owls are loaded with detail and it looks like they animated every single feather! Too bad I saw this at kind of a shitty theater though. Something like this would be awesome in IMAX.

IMAX 3D vs RealD vs Digital 3D really doesn't make a difference. The IMAX movies aren't true IMAX sizes, they're just using IMAX 3D technology at normal sizes. Like Avatar 3D in IMAX 3D wasn't any bigger but the IMAX 3D technology offers more pop-out 3D but supposedly Digital 3D and RealD are sharper picture.

That being said, I did see this 3D yesterday. It was really stunning visually. The story was obviously for kids since it was so abrupt on a lot of details and timelines. But it was still enjoyable even with the 2 or 3 montages they had in there. The voices were pretty good, I loved hearing Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Captain Barbosa (Geofrey Rush). They both have great animation voices.

Well I was referring more to the sound quality and overall quality of the screen. The shitty Regal I went to had muffled sound, hardly any bass, and may as well have been in mono compared to how this movie was supposed to sound. Also, I couldn't really focus on the 3D because the 3D just emphasized obvious scratches on the screen and something seemed to reflect weird off of it the whole time.

This regal has about 3 good theaters that are normally reserved for first week release movies, and the ones they aren't expecting to bring a lot of revenue get played on the shitty ones in the back. I thought that by seeing this opening day I would get a decent viewing, but apparently I can't even count on that anymore. If I'm paying $13 for a 3D movie, that should tell these people that I'm paying extra because I want something more immersive, not some shitty screen with ass sound that isn't worth the price of a 2D film let alone 3D. I am so pissed at this place because this isn't the only time this has happened.

And the IMAX theater around here really is TRUE IMAX. At least I think it is. It's the "Ultra Screen" at Marcus, and it is significantly larger than your average movie screen. I think it's about two stories high. We also have access to COSI's "Extreme Screen" which is truly a sight to behold. It's the biggest screen in the state (maybe even the nation, but I have to check on that). It completely fills your vision, and you really do feel like you are in the movie. Seriously, I almost got vertigo from that thing. Unfortunately, since it's COSI's exclusive screen, they don't show major releases on it, and it's reserved for documentaries that were shot exclusively for that format. I'll tell you though, exploring caves never looked so good
