An Atlus game.

You sure like your Atlus games, don't you?

And damn, 50 bucks for all that? Dunno how the game is, though... because I know nothing about it.

Booooo...

Yes, ATLUS is doing it this time around (and did the original in Japan as well) but the initial series (or Growlanser II/III) was brought over by Working Designs who've done numerous things right with it. Sadly, Working Designs is no more...

If you've got a PS2 that plays blue discs, I'd try picking it up some time.

EDIT: Reserved, 9/19 for our local place. I never reserve games, to give you an idea of how impressed I was.

After doing some research, it seems that this installment of the series is the fifth. Growlanser Generations was II and III.

Growlanser itself is a very hard series to keep up with. Like FF when it started, only half of the games made it stateside. The latest in the series is VI (Precarious World) which came out in late June this year in Japan. The PlayStation had 1 and the PS2 has 2-6. The only reason we got any part of the series to begin with is because we used to have a kickass company called Working Designs...which just isn't there anymore. We miss out on the first, fourth and possibly sixth game because of it. Unless they pull what Square did, I doubt that will change.

For ATLUS to go through and actually send another one stateside after all this time is actually a bit of a surprise. It's only been about 5 years.

Just to let you guys know, it's out. It's under a limited edition label.

If you're serious on the series, I will say that I wasn't the only one who reserved it at the spot out of nowhere EB games in Arkansas that I reserved it at. That's kicker number one.

Two, the box is about the same size you'd expect out of a DVD box set. There's a reason for that and since there's no three; I'll clarify: It comes with the game itself, an 83-page graphics pamphlet detailing all of the characters with some information from Growlanser I - V with information on characters, landscapes, etc...the Growlanser V OST, 3 holographic cards, 3 pins and...yea one Growlanser V keychain.

...A good start out of the box is possibly putting this lightly at a 50 dollar ching.

EDIT: Scratch that...it's may be an OST disc...and it may not...it's a MEDIA DVD actually. Wow.

I decided to pick it up today. Not knowing anything of significance about the series, just random impulse. No reservation. The store also (gasp!) had a Japanese cart of Pokemon Silver, which I got due to it's obvious local scarcity.

Well the thing that made me jump initially was the fact that they've gone from 2D sprites to 3D.

That right there took too much out of me intially.

Played a few hours last night and it's taking it further like Growlanser III did to II. It's more or less how Grandia works in its battle system with the exception that if you merge what you know about II and III into that system you've pretty much got what you would expect.

The kicker is, for those that remember, there are no rings. They've ditched the ring system and have traded it off for skill plates and flow based on it for leveling up at your convenience. Not sure how this'll go down since I'm seemingly in the middle of some prologue and I'm two and a half hours in...

Anyone else get this or did anyone get to the 'Main Role' yet?

They've brought back the test similar to the one in Growlanser II where you have to test how you'll react in any given situation and based on how you act is how your starting stats and your growth will be for you main character. They've got me pegged once again...

For those who're wondering:

HP 44
MP 13
STR 21
DEX 20
ATK 23
MOV 66
ATW 47

Emphasis seemed to be about even in STR and INT for growth but double or all the way to the left in DEX. 'Astute Fencer' apparently.
