Here. Technically it's yesterday, though.

Yep, one of the first games I ever played, a game that got me even more interested in video gaming and, eventually, ROM hacking, a game that spawned many sequels and touched the lives of millions worldwide. I can hear the World 1-1 theme running through my head right now, as I imagine Mario running and jumping through the level

Any thoughts?

Happy Anniversary, SMB! It may not be my favorite Mario platformer, but it's a classic!

Nintendo of Japan put up a little site dedicated to this event.

Happy anniversary Mario!

I'm really hoping the anniversary pack comes to the US w/ the booklet and stuff. Also the disc may have more than just a rom image.

Happy birth duh Mr Mario!

Hard to believe its been 25 years since he was introduced as Jump Man. Now he's the flagship Nintendo character.

Actually, it was more like 29 years since Donkey Kong. The 25-year anniversary is of Super Mario Bros., not the character Mario

For the record, that image is ancient in terms of the Internet.

Anyway, I was never particularly fond of the first Super Mario Bros, as I had played 3 and perhaps even World beforehand. After such platforming greatness, the first one just seemed second-rate in comparison.
Despite all that, though, I respect it for being the true start of the Mario series we all know and love today, and I've certainly spent a fair share of hours playing it, so I suppose I can still offer my congratulations.

Thank you Nintendo for creating the greatest video game series of all time (at least in my eyes )! It's so awesome to see how far Mario has come in the past 25 years.

Even after playing SMB3 and World I still prefer SMB2J over both of them and there's only one other Super Mario game out there that I've ever enjoyed as much as it .

I think it's the physics that make many feel this way. Hell, I played the original first and I still find its physics incredibly awkward.

Hard to believe the game's (and the NES, too) that old though...

Yup! Even made the news last night.

Funny how we've gotten to the point that the anchors on the news were making fun of the movie (as they should) but admitting they had fond memories of the original. A few years back they'd have the news story and botch details.

I play it every now and again and start yelling at 8-3 and the very end of 8-4 with the Hammer Brother and the Podoboo.

I've been able to get through it once, but that's it.

I love how the US version of the video on Huffington Post completely skips SMB2J, even though the Japanese version on NoJ's site does mention Super Mario USA.

Hooray for revisionist history!

The day I didn't stay up for a full 24 hours and play Super Mario Bros. on my Famicom Disk System, and play a bunch of other Mario games on my NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and SNES while blasting Mario music. Oh bugger!

Well, read this.

Fun fact: I was playing SMB2J years before Lost Levels. You have to *LOVE* rental stores that had a few pirate carts on the shelves.

I also played SMB3 months before release. Same deal; pirate cart.

Never been much of a big fan of the original SMB. I do find some of the hacks for it quite fun though. *coughextramariobroscough*

And as mentioned before, this is due to the physics being a bit odd. I love SMB 3 and SMB 2 is quite good too, even though I never beaten the final level.

Maybe I'm just used to the SMB1 physics, but I like them just fine

SMBDX, on the other hand, has annoying physics. Why does getting a mushroom in mid-air suddenly hit you with a huge amount of gravity?
