In a Research Methods class in college watching some video. Figured out something was up after class based on the general mood in the hallway but didn't know what.

Ended up watching what was happening on a TV in the sports gear shop nearby. I actually thought that there was some big sports news since there were so many people standing around it, but... not the case. :\

At school. 3rd grade.

I seriously did not hear what had happened until I got home for lunch, and never ended up coming back that day.

6th grade. We knew something was up and they were being shady about it, but we had no idea what. I almost want to say we were let out early but I can't remember too well. I remember my math teacher being really upset about something (turns out his daughter worked there--she was fine, I guess, since he was back to himself after) and when we went to computer class they specifically asked us not to go on news sites...I think we were getting annoyed at the vagueness by that point and someone went and looked it up. I specifically remember finding out during that class period.

At the end of the day they gave us a folded up sheet of paper that we weren't supposed to look at, it was apparently instructions informing our parents how to gently break the ice to their kids or whatever. Needless to say I read it anyway and then talked about it with my mother when we got home. Luckily I didn't know anyone involved, but a few online friends did sadly. Don't remember too much past that or really being affected, other than seeing an obituary in the paper about one local guy who'd died in the attacks. The thing that was unsettling about it was that the guy bared a striking resemblance to my dad--I guess it kind of made me realize that you know...these people could be someone's parents, husbands, friends, relatives...its really awful how many people had to lose someone that day. I count my blessings that I was fortunate enough not to lose someone.

I was about an hour from waking up for school in the 8th grade when I heard my parents panicking, I had no idea what was going on, something about a plane hitting a building... I thought they were talking about something local! I got up early and watched the news and learned about it and my parents kept me home from school that day.

My exact situation except for the fact that I, was in grade 4. We even went down to the school's gym and had an assembly about it but I had no idea what any of it was about, it wasn't until I got home and my parents explained it to me that I understood what had happened...

Our classes were REALLY short that day after it happened... I had a 2-hour English class go 20 minutes and a 90-minute History class go 30. Lots of free time although that was spent trying to piece together what had happened.

Needless to say, I got home a little earlier than normal that day. :\

Broken Arrow, OK. 10th grade 1st period. I first saw footage of something going on as I was leaving my weight lifting class. It looked like it was from somewhere in England, or thats what I thought based on the building type. I later realized that was somewhere in New York there were showing. When I got to my 2nd period English class, I found out what was going on. We saw that the first tower had been hit by an airplane. My whole class watched as the second tower was hit by another plane. I don't remember much of what was going on but each of our classrooms had TVs. I think it was at the end of that English class that the first tower collapsed. In my 3rd period algebra class we watched the second tower go down. The rest of the day is a blur, but I remember my mother telling me that I would always remember when and where I was when this happened. She said she could recall exactly when and where she was when JFK was assassinated. And its true. I can see and feel the classroom around me when recalling these memories. I remember watching MSN and thinking this couldn't be real.
