I have been Running Fallout 3 on My PC and it has not been running very fast although the graphics are not poor by any means. Everything is just very "laggie" and it loads very slow. I do not understand why.

-PC SPECS-
~NVIDIA GeForce Series 6150 LE

~Windows XP

~AMD Sempron Processor 3400+

~512MB Memory

~120GB Hard Drive

I have tried to Purge Cell Buffer for that is Said to increase performance, But that did nothing if not made it slower.

If I have a Outdated PC, What can I do to increase speed at the cost of poor Graphics?

Thanks

You'll basically need a new computer sadly... a single-core Sempron and GeForce 6150 just won't cut it for modern gaming =/

As Schala said, your rig is not up to the challenge of most newer games.

Just a few tips though:
1. Make sure you have every other program closed. Check your icons on the bottom right, close everything you aren't using such as instant messengers, media clients, even virus protection. With only 512mb ram, your resources are very precious.

2. Make sure the graphics in game are on the lowest possible settings and turn AA (Anti-Aliasing) to the minimum.

3. If you can, get 2GB of ram to replace your 512MB. This should help load time on the game. Windows XP typically uses up to 256MB just to run the operating system, so you only have 256MB to work with for games and other applications.

4. Buy a new computer. If you have a computer savvy friend, they can upgrade your current rig (if its not a proprietary type of case from Dell, HP etc) part by part for $500 or so and you'll be able to play modern games on medium settings.

Even on an overclocked 1GB GeForce 9800GT, with 4GB of RAM, on a dual-core Phenom, I still can't max out the game -- and it still doesn't always run smoothly. Fallout 3 runs on a pretty inefficient engine and requires a moderately powerful machine.

Your best chance of improving performance is to really get a new PC; one that would play the game well would run about $650 or more these days. The computer you have doesn't even meet the game's minimum requirements; a Sempron is a low-end processor, and the GeForce 6150 was a low-end GPU even when it was brand-new. Frankly, I'm surprised that FO3 will run on your box at all. That machine should barely capable of running World of Warcraft or Torchlight, let alone Fallout 3 ...

The Sempron would have to be replaced to have any decent chance of modern gaming; the sound card replacement side isn't too bad, as even a $50 card today can run stuff, but your CPU is horrible.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Yep, new computer.

Other than that, just stripping everything down bare until it works acceptably, but I doubt it'll ever get there. If you do get it running with some semblance of smoothness, it'll probably look like hell.

I set everything to the lowest Quality and it actually runs exceptionally fast! and surprisingly that graphics are not THAT bad. the textures are just blunt, and the effects are very distorted. I guess shes' a tough Ol' Bastard eh? But I do plan on getting a better rig in the future, but I definately wont have the money for a "Hefty Stack" anytime soon.

Don't feel bad, System... I was still using a computer from 1998 as my main computer in 2006... then again, I didn't really play many modern PC games back then (just PS2, GameCube, etc.)

Even to this day, I still prefer pre-2000 computer games over more modern ones, although I do play some more modern games like SimCity 4 and Civilization IV. =P

I had a similar problem with Mass Effect. Turn the resolution down to the lowest setting, and then turn all of the graphics down to the lowest setting.

Or, upgrade that fossil

If you don't want to buy a whole new computer, you can add more RAM for a better performance.

512 MB can run TF2, but 1-2GB is ideal.
