It would be nice if we could live in a world with that ease of connection and high security working together.
*New Exploit Danger Level 5 - Sharing of an image directly from one phone to another can be exploited to run malicious code from a specialty crafted JPG. Users are advised to turn off this function until we can patch it... again.... ____________________ |

09-01-10 02:38:33 PM Post #3564 The screen just stretches out like that, yeah, no. Stretching/fold-out screens maybe, but not that smooth. Detecting hovering fingers is definitely cool though.
The mirror thing is probably already doable with a projector and camera, though it might not work that well. Or you could just stick an OLED panel over it. I hate to think what fog would do to it though. Transparent screen would definitely be awesome, and entirely feasible. LCD panels already are transparent, they just need backlighting to be useful. OLED should fix that. Most of this though is just showing some really annoying text effects and wireless integration working far better than will ever be realistic. Not really related to screens at all. ____________________ |

Paulguy's Post configuration I was thinking exactly the same as hyper hacker.
Most of it was showing off interfaces and communications that are for more smooth and responsive than we will ever see, and honestly, way too open integration with random devices, which as darkdata expressed, would probably lead to rather severe security problems. Remember bluetooth cell phone sync from a few years ago, and even now? Full of holes; sometimes you could download someone's contacts list without any confirmation. I'm all for all kinds of technology, but having all that stuff in random stuff in the home, like mirrors and stuff seems silly. I'm fine with all that stuff just being on my computer or on my phone/handheld device. ____________________ |

09-01-10 10:02:46 PM Post #3566 The mirror seems especially silly to me, because how much time you spend in front of a mirror? And if it's a lot, how well do you think you can focus on the screen while doing whatever you're doing in the mirror?
Now, put a screen in the bath and/or in front of the toilet so I can read and IRC in there, and we're getting somewhere. ____________________ |
