 I was about to say "Oh no, I'll have to go through a bunch of trouble to watch it" and then I realized that: 1. I'm on a mac 2. I don't want to watch it. Silly me. 
Maybe they'll anounce an iPod Jumbo, which is the same size as an iPad but without any of the extra functionality.

I'll admit that the price are lower than I expected for those new iPod Touch.
Might grab the 8GB if I can't fix my headphone jack / have some spare money. |

Problem is that people expected SSD pricing to go down over the long term, and while it has, it's kind of gone back up again recently. If it weren't for that, I also would have expected the iPod touch to start at 16GB and go up to 128GB possibly.
The pricing on the touch line went down a little though, so. Can't complain about that.
The touchscreen nano is a pretty novel little device, one of those things that kind of struck me as "holy crap I AM LIVING IN THE FUTURE" -- but ... is the additional storage space and a tiny touchscreen worth the extra money over the shuffle? I mean ... you'd think that somehow they'd have at least managed a 4GB shuffle. The nano is 8GB or 16GB and not that much bigger.
At least you could use the new nano as a super-expensive watch ... open the clock app and wear the thing on a bracelet or something.
Anyway I thought the new Apple TV was pretty cool. It's nothing that hasn't really done before but ... it's $99! Plus I can use it to stream whatever to a TV if I want; instead of having a DVR with its DRM crap and limited storage space I could rip DVDs with handbrake into h.264 or whatever. Plus on the rare occasion that I felt like watching a random TV episode of some random show it'd cost a buck. I don't watch TV that much anyway; if I do it's for news or weather that I could get easily enough on the internet anyway. This kind of setup is *perfect* for me.
Fuck TiVo.

So iTunes 10 update was released overnight. The new icon looks a whole lot like Spore's. The update claims that they've "improved" the look and feel. Instead, they've made it worse. The program takes longer to respond to selecting a playlist, and they removed the different colors from all the side icons, so it takes a bit longer for the user to distinguish them. Oh, and they didn't fix the whole "you can forget about keeping the album art viewer on Now Playing" thing. Oh, and they changed up the UI so much that the buttons in the corner of the window are VERTICAL instead of horizontal, making it completely different from every other window. :specialed:
Remember when Steve Jobs claimed the iPod/iPhone was the superior gaming device compared to the DS/PSP? It seems he went at it again when he claimed that the iPod Touch outsold the DS and PSP combined worldwide. (For those who watched and already saw this, this article contains some figures to measure the claim against.)

The new icon looks like a lickable blue candy thing. It's recognizable as iTunes pretty easily among everything else in my dock. I don't mind it. My guess is that all of the iLife app icons could be getting a makeover in similar fashion.
I like the UI changes, myself. Everything looks like it's made of chrome and it's really cool when using OS X's graphite appearance. I also like how the app is ~40MB smaller and it definitely seems to load long lists faster; switching to my "main" playlist from the full library used to take a couple seconds, but now it's instantaneous. It's slightly slower in the new album list mode because of the additional sorting going on, but I prefer the old list mode.
The window control buttons are arranged the same way they are on the mini player. It doesn't bug me because usually when I'm using iTunes at all ... I'm using the mini player.
I can't speak for the Windows version though. I'd guess that it's probably just as unwieldy as it's ever been.
I am looking forward to seeing what people do with controllers for the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad though ... there's only so much you can do with touch. Imagine a port of like ... Unreal Tournament 3 to the things. Epic already had some proof-of-concept out a while ago that showed that they had a partial port of the game for testing set up, with the link gun and some basic bot AI.

Yeah. Honestly, the only reason the "8GB" and "16GB" shit exists is so that Apple can charge a (surprise) premium for the privilege of actually being able to fit a few videos on the damn thing.

To be honest, it's not that bad. I don't regularly use iTunes now that my iPod touch is dead, but compared to 8.x, it's a lot faster.
A lot of that speed upgrade came from 9.x, though.
I'm not a big fan of the Album by Artist list's look, but you can switch to regular list mode or Cover Flow mode to fix it, anyway.
(By the way, Rick Astley's new song is actually really good. :V)
As for Ping, I couldn't care less about it.
