Also I love the assumptions and explanations the book makes. In one paragraph they basically tell you how to add decimals, in the next they assume you know the formula for area of a square.

Also amusing, look how simple the next few are. Find the absolute values of constants. Hurrr...

Words fail me... I haven't even looked at any math since Calculus back in High School... But for something so easy to follow something like THAT?

Don't get me wrong... I like math... but that's just rediculous...

Yeah, the difficulty curve in this book goes something like this:

(For the record, I'm now on metric conversions. "Convert 1 metre to centimetres." *insert roll-eyes smilie here*

works well for this purpose.

And yeah, I never got that. Even most of the time in our classes, we'd just skip over chapters or completely ignore others. Know what's fun? Doing proofs when you haven't even learned what one is.

Remind me why I got my GED again?

Yeah. Fuck that shit. I hate stupid mathy crap. It is one of the most useless things tought in school (beyond grade 9 anyways) as a compulsory course.

The really scary thing is, I've done problems like that one (not the absolute value ones) since I got into college.

Damned vector geometry class. I don't think it taught me anything terribly useful that I didn't already know, and it kept me from getting into multivariable calculus in my first semester.

Looks much better than what I went through. Itsstarted easy, but skyrocketed up at an 85 degree andle. It did NOT go back down to easy

Luckily for me, math is easy. Also, the teacher tells us to use calculators on most problems so go laziness!

Or it could be the sound of me attempting to be funny.

Simplicity v1.1
Isn't that how most math courses typically start out with that bullshit?

Most of it's found in the -back- of the book too I often see...that made no sense to me. I've had calc classes start that way; you start on chapter 11 and do matrices and that crap before you tackle what's even in chapter 1.

They usually provide only the even answers, for self-checking. Odds are almost never printed, and that's usually what's assigned.

Even then, rarely do they assign them without stating "Show all work" (), so having the answers is relatively useless...

I think math is easy. For that matter, math is also fun, and I can't wait to learn more.

(Warning: The remainder of this post is a rant. You can skip it.)

Math is only easy when the book teaches you how to do something before telling you to do it. My sister is in an "8th" grade math class, and they started asking her to write linear equasions with no explanaitions on how. It took 2 minutes to explain it, so why couldn't they just put it in the book?

The "integrated" math is worse. It seems to follow the idea that we're willing to do pointless and tedious work, then it gives us some long-winded explaination on how we were supposed to do it so it would be easier.

Today I was working on algebra (solve for x) and I did 15 of the 17 problems in my head. That right there is proof enough for me that math is easy, and middle school math books are stupid.

Still, HH definitely has it worse than anyone around here.
