AMD kills ATI brand, you can look forward to blood-stained Radeons

ATI, the name of hope for all PC gamers who were sick and tired of NVIDIA rebadging the same GPU over the past couple of years, is to be no more. The callous souls over at AMD have decided that our little consumer brains aren't sophisticated enough to handle two awesome brands, so they're just axing the use of the ATI moniker from here on out.

Thankfully, they're keeping the actual product names such as Radeon. But it will now be AMD Radeon and AMD FirePro, etc. I can understand wanting to consolidate brand names (in the healthcare industry, we've been doing that a lot over the last 5 years). Makes it easier for marketing and brand recognition.

I'd been wondering if/when they were going to do this.

Well, it's just a name, I guess. Those icons are pretty ugly, though.

It's almost the same... ...to be honest, I always bought ATI graphics cards and AMD CPUs together anyway.

Yeah those logos are pretty bad, like someone did for a first year project in Flash.

As for the news itself, I had expected this would happen, probably wouldn't make a big difference.

I think those graphics are more to represent the stickers they put on computers with their hardware in them. My laptop has a sticker exactly like that but it still says ATI for the video card.

Which is probably part of the reason they are combing brand names under just AMD. Some people never knew.

I'm all for it, really. Seemed redundant.

Yep. And to be honest, I'll admit that I'm a bit more confortable buying an AMD branded product than ATI. I blame people going "ATI is the devil" in the past.

I liked ATI's branding, but ultimately when AMD bought them, I bought them together on the idea of 'They're both owned by the same company, they should work well together.'

They do, and so, I feel it makes sense to make it even more obvious. :p
