My namesake seems to be headed far north. The most southern state this prediction shows it could hit is North Carolina and goes as far north as Maine. By then it would be down to a category 1 storm.

You're leaving out the fact that it's projected to hit Atlantic Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland) as a Cat 2 on Saturday.

Now they're saying Danielle will take a path closer to Ireland, before doing a pretty sharp turn towards southern Greenland. If it goes like this, it will be some more rain for the Greenland ice sheet.

At first, about the time I started paying attention to the hurricane season (some years ago..) I didn't think it was normal for hurricanes to make it to Canada, or as cyclones as far across the ocean as almost making it to Europe. I think it was in 2005 that one cyclone almost made it to Iceland as a category 1 hurricane. (Maria, 2005.) It had lost it's tropical characteristics by that time, though, and re-intensification here was due to merging with another low. Still, I find these events greatly fascinating.

Tropical Storm Fiona is now formed, and it's current forecast direction aims at North/South Carolina. It is not forecast to reach hurricane intensity (yet), only to remain as a TS until Saturday.

Danielle is now weakened to a tropical storm, and is expected to be gone by Thursday.

The Floridian Pagan Shield is working strong this year, causing the storms to stay away from us.

Earl looks massive!

Schala: You'd think that the Canadian media would be coming up with ways that Earl will NOT hit the Maritimes; instead they're showing how it's going to bounce away from the Eastern seaboard and hit.

Here are some interesting maps showing some forecasted routes of Earl, showing some of the uncertainty in these models. (The images labeled 'Computer Models' and 'Ensemble Models'). The Ensemble Models forecasts shows it potentially going over the eastern parts of Canada to, well... the Canary Islands. Of course, the areas where most of the purple paths bundle together (or the white path) are the most likely ones, and the Canary Islands track is just a freak outlier.

Heh, and just as I wrote this, they announced on NRK (Norwegian National Broadcasting) that Earl was updated to a Category 3. Not quite updated.

The Price must be right for Hurricane Season this year. TD 9 has formed to the west of Africa.

I just read on the news, as a little thing for Hurricane Earl, if you can prove at the Portland Sea Dogs' stadium (minor league baseball team) that your name is indeed Earl, they'll give you a free ticket to what I think is their next game.

I hate baseball, but it was an amusing little thing they have going on. Props.

Apparently one of the next storm names is supposed to be Gaston.

Now we can finally say:

No one blows like Gaston. :V

Might need to get some flashlights at Rite Aid tomorrow; not sure if my power will go out this weekend (one for my sister and another for myself =P)

Then again, I really hate this hot weather >=( In times like these, I often wish for a snowstorm or thunderstorm xD

IGOR was a cat 2 storm and within three hours he went to a cat 4. Amazing. I hope it doesn't hit anyone.

It's still too far away to tell, but it looks like it's following the trend of the previous storms and just roll right along the east coast. For this one, though, the predicted path spaghetti makes it seem like it might not even reach the coast and just follow it.

At it's current rate, it could be a week before it gets near enough to cause any trouble.

Looks like Florida is finally going to get hit with something. It might end up being a tropical storm before hitting land sometime tomorrow or Thursday.

Really? Where?

Oh, I see it. Didn't expect that path. Looks like I could possibly feel the effects of it here in Orlando. By Wednesday night no less.

The last two that formed in the Gulf went back to Mexico. This one didn't.

I think we're gonna get hit with something up here too, it's looking. It's supposed to be rather windy and nasty tomorrow at some point.

Sixteen officiall formed into Tropical Storm Nicole and is currently sitting off the coast. I don't know if Weather Underground has much data on it, because the projected path shows it not moving at all.
