Ice metal is ROM hack based on super metroid and just like Super Metroid it's a exploration platforming game. I tried to make Ice Metal a bit more exploration based then the original though. So to make sure you get the best exploration experience I had to make the combat slightly easier, to some extent. This might be good in a way as new players that have never played super metroid before get it a bit easier. But long time fans can still make the game quite hard by trying to find the most challenging/fastest way to beat the game.

The hack will also future new graphics drawn by me and a few other people. But you will also see graphic from both the original game and Zero mission/fusion in there too.

Currently, all level design for the whole hack is done and every known bug have been tweaked out as well. (My beta tester is running another run ATM)

So all in all, the only things left to do before the release is to make the in-game map as well as any fine tuning that may be needed.

I will, of course, supply some screenshots as well as a trailer. =)
Do however, note that the HUD have been changed since the screenshots where taken.

Surface: 1, 2
Sewers: 1, 2
Poison Point: 1, 2
Steamfair: 1, 2
Dark Dust: 1, 2
Ice: 1, 2
???: 1, 2

I don't want to jinx anything by saying a release date, but it will be quite soon. (Unless we find shit tons of new bugs out of the blue.)

Release edit:
-----------------------------

I hope you will enjoy it just as much as I would have had if I was not the creator.
This is version 1.30 and does not come with hard mode.

See read-me for more detailed info if you want it.

You only have to walk through 5 rooms underwater without the gravity suit... assuming you know where it is. =)

If that's the case, I hope it's outlined with neon lights because being lost underwater is never fun :|

This hack look immense. I tried hacking SM but dropped it for some reason. I think trying to think of level designs, weapon placement, enemy placement and all the other crap (door functions) is what put me off. I'm gonna try to get back into it.

Is there an ETA for this piece of awesome?

Well, since my friend and I finished Flooded Norfair, we've been on the lookout for a solid Super Metroid hack.

I'm pretty excited to see what you do with a full-length hack. The trailer is encouraging, to say the least.

This looks pretty good, cant say it's the best I've seen, but it does look like you put some good work into it. How many rooms are modified?
I have a few other questions:
1. Is the asm code modified at all?
2. Are the graphics custom or imported pallets?
3. Any suit changes?
4. Any boss modifications?

So hey, I think I found a pretty major bug. In the area called Unknown,

Any advice? I think I'm pretty close to beating the game but it crashes

You're not the only one with this bug, sadly. From what I have gathered so far it have been issues with someone using this hack patched with another hack, such as control freak, and/or a Snes9x emulator issue. (Which by the way is kinda funny as it works fine on Zsnes and real hardware, if that's the issue.)

Well, here's my say. I haven't gone playing Super Metroid for a while, and while I'm not about to say I've never played a hack of it I can't remember one I have.
I've run into a fair share of bugs with this hack, sure. Some map bugs and misprints related to items (including one not having a dot anywhere near it, didn't get a shot though), a place or two where I could get up when I should not have (Only place I can remember actually pushed me -down- through the platform once I was standing), but the worst was when one of the rooms was ab-so-LUTELY unreadable...by ZSnes. (As seen by this, this and that) Loaded it up in Snes9x though, and that fixed the problem. I did get the bug with the Speed Boost block though, but while the music did stop, I was still able to progress. ? Nevertheless, beat the game (a couple of days ago) with a time of 05:00 and a percentage of 14.4%...I mean ~20 items missing, heh heh...

The room madman have problem with is kinda strange in many ways... as many people are having issues with it. None of my beta testers nor I had any issues with it so I'm quite unsure why it bugs out. But I'm going to look into it of course.

Item % restarts if you hard save and load, sadly. That bug is fixed ATM, but I want to fix the rest of the bug before uploading a new version.

You have definately managed to capture the Metroid feel. I'm either lost or rapidly progressing through the game

So far, I love it. You've managed to get me jumping into all of the small spaces on the off-chance that you've hidden a path or an item in there. I also think the Mega Ball is a brilliant feature. I find the green in Subterrane a bit bright, but that's probably just me. Overall, I think it's amazing

I'm at the same room in the "Unknown area". My ROM isn't patched with control freak or any other kind of hack and I'm having the same issues (crashing the game) with ZSNESW. Any ideas?

Just patched the 1.2 version and used an earlier savestate. That room was fxed, however the next one (Charge Beam room) has problems (the sound stops and after a while it crashes).

Amazing hack, by the way.

If you patch it, can you still use the same save-data (save rooms or save-states)?

This should not be an issue if you keep the new ROM have the same name.

Messiaen: I will look into this. Try using another version of the same emulator for now.

Hey, I started playing this game the other day. It's fun, but I found a pretty serious bug.

This door here...

Which is at this location on the map...

Takes me to this room here.

Which is impossible to get out of. I have no idea if there's just a random upgrade or something plot-vital behind this, but if it's the latter, it could be a game-breaking bug.
