| As my new pet project I am hacking Pokemon. This will be my first hack so I am kind of unsure of what to do exactly. I have gathered this tool called Elitemap and I am trying to work it out. Has anyone used it before? The problem I am having is that I want to pair the different regions together in one map but I can't figure out how to do it. Any suggestions on what to do? |

Mentioning Elitemap, I believe you're hacking one of the third generation games.
By linking two regions together, you mean connecting two maps? I think that's done by clicking on one of the arrows around the map. Actually, I'm not even sure if it's possible in Elitemap. Whoops! I know you could resize the map, though. Maybe the links are somewhere in the options with that..?
I guess I'm not helping at all here.
Any response is help Sanky. ^^ If you get any ideas feel free to shout them out |

| Ok, I kind of have an idea of how to use Elitemap, but I have run into this consistent problem with the other programs that were recommended to me. Each of them say that a "base" cannot be found. I know that a base is a platform from which to start hacking from, but I am unsure of which one to choose. For instance, where do you find a pokedex base? I do apologize for asking such basic questions. It is just that I can't seem to find an adequate answer elsewhere. |

Chi.
Personally I've had too many problems trying to use anything related to Elite Map...
I used Advance Map instead, so you might want to try that one.
If you want to hack the pokemon themselves (as in, stats and pokedex entries), you should absolutely use YAPE.

| do as MUCH stuff by hand as you can. You'll thank me later. 90% of the programs will do things incorrectly and fuck things up further down the line. Trust me, things will be a lot more organized and will actually WORK if you do things by hand--maps are probably the only thing I'd say its okay to use a program for and I'd avoid Elitemap and its associated tools like the plague. |

Keitaro: Do you mean the programming side of the hack or the graphics? I was planning on doing most of the scripting by hand because a lot of stuff I want to do with this hack aren't remotely covered by the original script. I am doing most of the sprites by hand. I plan to do three alternate sprites for every pokemon just so there is some variety when they show up.
Reimu: Thanks for the tip Reimu |

I meant the programming side, I don't know of any program that will generate graphics for you ;P but yeah, I would definitely do your scripting, trainer rosters, move set changes, Pokedex orders, anything else you think you could just use a program for...well, don't. Maps are okay like I said. Oh, and anything remotely related to pointers--do those by hand, you'll thank me later |

Unless he's going to expand to a Sinnoh Pokedex with pokemon evolving in ridiculous ways and an entirely new stat system, I say some of the simpler tools are safe to use, as long as you keep what they do in mind.
90% of the programs are poorly coded and mess up things, but the 10% that work do it well.
Anyways, I really don't think you should consider doing things so complex for a first hack... Things like three sprites for each pokemon and whatnot will require expanding stuff and pointers and a lot of work... But hey, if you are up for it go ahead. I'm just saying that you might want to focus on at least familiarizing with the more basic things first.

| Hmm maybe your right about taking it easy for my first hack. I think I will keep my idea a small project and once I get some experience I will start on the overall grand plan. |
