What is your favourite old operating system or environment? It should be something that's been discontinued for several years

As for me, I'll go with the combo of DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.1 I had a lot of video games from that era. Another choice for me might be the C64 environment.

Paulguy's Post configuration
I'm probably most nostalgic for windows 3.1 or 95.

The old Mac OS 8 interface is pretty nice. Looked like a better windows 95 in styling but worked really well at the time.

I think I really preferred the old win/DOS systems overall, though. They let you really get in to things and change shit very easily.

I always liked Mac OS 8/9's interface.
Also, I recall seeing, uh, BeOS or Haiku or something, where the title bar is just a short "tab". Pretty neat stuff.

The Amiga Workbench and System 7 are my favorite retro GUIs... but if I had to pick just one, it'd be the Amiga Workbench. After all, it is quirky enough to bring memories to many people. =P

Probably the Mac System 7 UI prior to System 7.5. It was when the overall system still had a "classic" feel to it, whereas System 7.5 and 7.6 were basically Mac OS 8 without the new appearance.

I haven't had much experience with amiga workbench but the interface is pretty neat as well, especially the earlier one on the 68K Amigas.

MacOS 7, but mostly because it's the one I grew up with ... I haven't seen much of the others at all, except Windows 3.1 somewhat

Maybe also Windows 2000 if it's old enough to count

My favorite was 98 too. You could play Dos and Windows games. I loved Commander Keen and Worms. The oldest I have used was 95. Then my dad put Red Hat on the 98 instead! I was really mad because I wanted to play Monkey Island 3. I also remember playing this odd game, you were this character in a sidescrolling game. On the easy mode you looked like a baby. The first level had grass and the second had robots. I remember on the beginning there was a scene with a guy with a mop. I think Right now the oldest working computer is an XP.

Might be jazz jackrabbit. If it's not you should probably play that anyway. :p

Already have but it was long ago, et me see if I remember.
Edit: I watched a video and it does not ring a bell. It looked different and I think you were a human in that game.

I always did miss Windows 98SE. It was the first OS I had and I could play all my old games on it without any real problems. Then again, my computer was slower than all hell.

I should just get that old computer and be done with it.

Windows 98, because it was my first computer. I did use 95 a bit, but at the time it seemed to have very little difference other than lower color settings (on my grandpa's computer...which he still has).

Microsoft, please never get rid of Classic.

MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows 95.

DOS 6.22 was where I practically learned to use a computer. It had 3.11, too, but it ran like utter shit. (Weird, since this was a 386...)

Windows 95 was my first "modern" OS. I was utterly fascinated with it when I first used it on my 486. Hilariously enough, it was out of support by the time I even touched it.

Mac System 7, but purely for nostalgic reasons; it was my family's first computer.

It had a jigsaw puzzle. And ClarisWorks. And the bomb errors. Good times.
