Anyway, long story short, I'm an agnostic atheist*, and I've kinda-sorta always been one.

Short story long, my family never really talked about religion. My extended family contained everything from Mormon missionaries to adamant atheists to generations of Catholics to members of a nameless religion(!), but I'll only talk about what's relevant to my religious position. My great grandfather (Namely, my mother's mother's father) was one of those adamant atheists, and that position carried over to my grandmother. As a result, my mother was never really exposed to religion, so she didn't really expose me to it either. My father came from a long line of Catholics, so he went to Catholic school. Apparently, this actually wound up turning him away from religion due to the mean nuns and whatnot, so he didn't really talk a whole lot about religion either. Due to all of this, every instance of religion I encountered until I was about 12 made no effort to force itself upon me.

Growing up, I made up a few strange beliefs, but I often wound up dismissing them later on after I realized that they seemed to have no effect on anything. I never really put any thought into religion, though. When I was around 12, though, a friend of mine decided to bring me to his church where some 18-looking guy told us some glurgy story that actually wound up making me question its moral; I still had a pretty open mind, though. Soon, he basically urged us to convert through some prayer then and there, and I remember thinking pretty hard about that. I eventually decided not to (I think), but from that day forth, I was always thinking about religion.

It didn't take me long to figure out that I'd need to do some research if I wanted to figure any of this out, so off to the internet I went. The more I read into it, the more I realized that I couldn't believe in Christianity. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that I am, in fact, an atheist, but my research hardly stopped there. To this day, I still strive to learn all I can about the world's religions. Although I'm almost certain that I won't be converting any time soon, they still fascinate me to no end.

*This means I don't currently believe any sort of god exists, but I recognize that I do not know with certainty that no god exists.

I went from Christian, to Buddhist, to Wiccan (for a few days) and finally to an Agnostic-leaning Atheist.

My family is Christian and very religious.

I see that God is real, but religion is man-made and flawed. I guess you can say that I'm pro-spiritual but anti-religion if that makes sense. I don't believe that anyone can know the ultimate truth, and anyone who claims to is a lier and a cheat. I also believe in always questioning and thinking about things, even if we know we can never truly answer them which is why I appreciate philosophy, but I absolutely hate the dogma of forcing your conclusions on others, as well as blind obedience, which is why I can't stand the practices of most religions. I guess you can just say that I believe in educating myself.

This is pretty close to what I think, although I'm not anti-religion.

The church that I used to go to was very nice, they didn't push ideals on each other or forced you to go. I even did the overhead projector as well at some point in time and even played some music. I just stopped going because a friend of mine (who was quite religious) just kept on trying to force me to go to his church a few kilometres out of town (as well as the church that I went to.) After that, I haven't really been there since (other than youth group things before College.)

Agnostic.

It's weird, I was raised Christian, but more and more often I questioned why there could be only one right religion in this vast universe. Not to mention my local priest was not the most nice of a man, and was not that humble, so the arrogance helped in the push away.

My personal belief is that there is a God(s) and/or Goddess(s). If I could boil it down to one reason, it would be the fact that I don't like the thought of dieing to be the end of 'me'. I want more life.

I guess it is a selfish belief, but it helps me sleep at night. :p

I just say "No religion". Not athiest because I don't know for sure if there is a God or not, but as far as I'm concerned it doesn't really matter either way.

I was raised in a Christian school and went to church every week for about 7 years, but I guess it just didn't stick with me. I'm pretty open to people of all religions though, except for maybe ridiculous ones like Scientology.

Now this.

Christianity is our family deal. My father wasn't baptised, so he doesn't belong to the church, but he still visits them whenever there's a reason to. We don't go to the church every sunday and religion really isn't a big deal in our family.

I'm not sure about my beliefs though. At times to times, I doubt the existance of a higher being, but sometimes, whenever I'm feeling depressed, praying to God and Jesus Christ isn't that bad.

EDIT: Had to.

Ok, now that I have some time I will expand on my statements from earlier.

When I say that I'm a Christian, I mean that as loosely as the term allows. You would say more that I'm a follower of Christ. Today, the label Christian typically means (or stereotypes) that you're anti-anything not in the Bible and you go to "church" every Sunday. There's a very good book out there called "Pagan Christianity". The authors explain where a lot of traditions and ceremonies originated for the church. You see that a lot of these practices were carried over from Roman converts, mainly Constantine I. A lot of these traditions still bind the church to old practices. Go to any church today and you'll sing a few songs, hear about their projects or outreaches, and then have someone speak at you for an hour or so. This is not what the church originally was, nor is it what Jesus intended it to be.

The New Testament church was a group of people living together, sharing all their possessions and caring for one another's needs. The church is the people, not a build or a place that it symbolizes today. People who love and share and profess their commitment to Christ by showing their commitment to those around them. They didn't need "outreach" missions or seminars to draw people in. Everyone outside saw their love for each other and wanted to know more, thats when they taught them about Jesus and his sacrifice so that we could be reconciled to God. This is the type of "Christian" I want to be. With the world today, its not easy. I know of a group that have achieved a place as close to a New Testament church body as I have ever seen. They live together on a plot of land and share life, multiple families living in the same home, teach their children diligence, hard work, and most of all love and reconciliation with your neighbors. I wish our situation was such that we could live there with them, but we have too many bills from living like normal people and could not sustain them there. They live simple lives, their kids are honest, humble, and not full of greed. Most of them don't have cell phones, but they know what they are (they're not Amish). Its because everyone they know lives less than a mile away. They don't feel the need to have all sorts of material possessions. They find more value in their friends and family than in gadgets or clothes, etc. These people are what I would call real Christians. They're not any more spiritual or smarter or know God any better. But they love one another and they all care for each other's needs. Thats the type of "Christian" or follower of Christ that I want to be.

Deist, more or less.

I believe in God (or at least some higher power), but I also believe he no longer takes an active role in running the world and expects us to sort things out for ourselves. After agonizing about it for years, this was the conclusion that made the most sense to me. I also believe that there is such a thing as Heaven and Hell, though I think that Hell is reserved for the truly evil among us--that the vast majority of people go to Heaven when they die.

However, despite not being religious myself, I utterly despise it when people judge others based on their religion (unless said religion is something completely ridiculous, such as Scientology). I hate it because I used to be a Christian, and I was frequently judged for it online, so I know how hurtful judgment based on religion (or anything else for that matter) can be. And most people who say they "hate religion" piss me off, to be honest, because they are often very judgmental about it (my former best friend is a textbook example).

Well, just to clarify, when I say I'm anti-religion, I don't mean that I'm one of the people who hates religion and condemns others for believing it. I know what people you are talking about, and those people piss me off too. They come off to me as just as blind as the people they are criticizing. I have no problem with someone believing a certain religion. At least as long as they aren't hurting others by doing it, or its not completely ludicrous like Scientology. I believe that there are many ways to get in touch with your spirituality, and for a lot of people, religion is how they do it.

It's just that religion in general, or at least most religious doctrine I've been exposed to tends to piss me off. A lot of it is dogmatic, uneducated, encourages hate, discrimination, and violence, or is just outright hypocrisy and/or counterproductive to spiritual growth. I guess you could say that I view religion the same way I do politics. I try to keep myself as removed from both as much as possible, but I also realize that they are integral to society, and that everyone is entitled to their own viewpoint regarding them, and I have my own viewpoint with them as well. Unfortunately, people tend to use both in order to accomplish their personal agendas, start wars, elevate themselves above others, deceive others, discriminate against others over their viewpoints, and all in all just corrupt what they are actually meant for.

I also don't believe that any one particular religion or viewpoint is 100% correct, so I can't really say that I belong to a particular religion. However, I do think the whole point is to have different viewpoints. It's just that organized religion tends to restrict those viewpoints into a traditionally accepted set of doctrine, which can help some with rituals and whatnot, but to me, this seems counterproductive to the whole idea.

I listed myself as agnostic but to be honest I am not really sure that is entirely accurate. It just fits better than the rest of the options.

I personally believe that God is not a deity per say. I think that "it" would be a part of an energy based species that would appear to be a god to humans because it would be so far ahead on an evolutionary scale.

As for the universe as a whole...I believe the universe is run by a giant mathematical equation. Every thing that happens in every living and non-living things existence is accounted for in the equation. I find that religion and perceptions are constantly changing and I find it hard to believe that the universe would be run by the chaos of interpretation. I think that math is a much better representation of how the universe works because it doesn't change. Math is constant and there is an intrinsic beauty in that.

Officially, I'm Catholic, because my parents decided to baptize me, just because, when I was born. I'm not religious in any way though, and I'd never baptize my children if I'll have any. I'd let my kid decide on his own when (s)he's old enough to do so.

I'm Catholic. I'm quite Religious, but I don't quote the Bible or make posts more than 250 words that quote the Bible or contradict what people say.

I'm also in the Church of the FSM.
