Study: Inkjet printers are filthy, lying thieves

Yeah, the head of the ink cart has dried up, and the ink does not want to print right. After trying quote a few things.. none worked.

I am just thankful that I can print my assignment at school.

So, note to anyone who uses inkjet printers, remember to use it at least a few times over the summer or you could be up the creak without a paddle.

(The same thing seems to have happened to the color ink cart too. Lovely.)

We can put a man on the moon, but we can't make a printer that isn't total shit (nor a driver for one that doesn't crap all over your system).

Heck, no driver can be worse than the MaxBackServiceInt.exe app you have running secretly when you buy A Maxtor External hard drive, and install the one touch backup software.

In the task manager, you can clearly see that it it taking up about 50% of your lovely cpu power sitting there doing nothing.

That just sounds like an automatic backup program that's not working right. Now, printers... last time I tried to install a printer driver, the actual driver was hidden away in some setup program, so the only way to get the driver was to run the program. As soon as you opened it, it dumped 400MB of junk on the hard drive. OCR tools, fax programs, tools to do things Windows already does a better job of, etc. I ended up doing a system restore, returning the dumb thing, and buying a different one. (FYI, it was a Lexmark.) The new one (an HP) also came with ~200MB of junk, but I was at least able to bypass the installer and just have Windows find the driver on the disc.

There's no way to fix a dried ink cartridge head? Even the "clean the ink cartridge head" thingy doesn't work?

Well, you just saved a bunch of money on ink cartriges you didn't have to pay out the (your choice of body part) to replace.

As for the article Darkdata posted, I look at the paper to tell me when I need ink, not the printer. And the cartriges have nozzles built into them, so although they're more expensive, the ink isn't drying out any time soon. (But they're still cheaper than Lexmark.)

Don't make me start ranting about Ink cartridges >:[

This happens to me a lot (especially with the colour cartridge). I won;t use it for a while and then when I do need it it doesn't work . Now I keep spares in my desk just in case this ever does happen

I once bought an ink cartridge and tried to use it the very same day. It was already completely empty/dried up already. I don't remember if we got our money back or not.

We were not pleased, needless to say. I think it was even the last cartridge on the shelf.

Ugh, I had a Lexmark printer once, years ago...it was the most horrible piece of crap I ever had the displeasure of using. It used ALL THREE COLORS to simulate black, since you could only have either a color cartridge or a black cartirdge (not both), its DPI was atrocious, and it had a tendency to either clog up completely or mash its print heads directly against the paper, creating a series of crap brown skidmarks across the page.

Never again...

I have a HP Deskjet, and I didn't use it at all over the summer, the last time I printed anything with it was in May, and then I didn't use it all summer, and then I used it at the very end of August to print my schedule. The color cartridge seemed fine, but the black cartridge blurred the beginning of certain sentences, so blah. After a while, it started working just fine, and it continues to print just fine.

But yeah, in the future, I'll steer clear from Lexmark printers. HP really is the only brand I'd trust when it comes to printers anyway.

The last bad printer experience I had was with an old Canon bubblejet printer. It printed painfully slowly, and often left stripes. It too had to use all three colors to get black. Also, the cartridge would drip sometimes, so sometimes I'd get random dots of solid color on the page.

It was fun to open the front and watch it as it printed though. (This was back when I was in elementary school)

So, I'm not saying Canon is a bad brand for printers, I don't know. All I know is to stay away from their bubblejets, if you're looking for good printing quality.

The first printer I had was an HP, and it was total crap. It didn't even work right until I stuffed it full of paper, then it worked for a while after that but jammed pretty much every time you used it. Eventually it just stopped doing anything, it'd not be recognized by Windows or not turn on or what have you. The one I have now seems alright, though.

I fucking HATE that. I had to be absolutely sure I wasn't buying one of those ripoffs when I got one. My mom's does that (and guess what, it's a Lexmark ).
