Let's talk about those games that dominated arcades long before Pong and Breakout came along...

Whenever I go to a nearby pizzeria or the bowling alley... after I'm finished eating/playing a few bowling games, I always go to the pinball machine for a couple games of pinball. I think Gottlieb made some of the best machines of all time, with Williams a close second. It's a shame that the only pinball manufacturer left today is Stern, though... =(

It's a good thing that we have pinball games for the computer now, though. Some of my favorites are the 21st Century pinball games for Amiga/DOS, but out of all of those, my favorite is Pinball Fantasies. =D

I also like Epic Pinball for DOS, and the Space Cadet pinball that came with Windows 2000/XP. I've also used Visual Pinball and Future Pinball, two very good pinball games for Windows, which are mainly targeted at recreations of real tables (both electromechanical and solid state)...

I have a retail disk that has Space Cadet,
along with Pirate and Knight themed tables

evidently MS bought it from somebody and didn't want the whole pack

which is a shame -- I think the pirate one's better

What about Virtual Pinball? That game was amazing!

Also, did you know that Pinball is still illegal in some cities?

Pinball, ILLEGAL! I have never heard of such a thing! Oh and I have Kirby's Pinball Land in my pocket right now. It is pretty hard, one of the harder Kirby games.

I haven't played on a pinball machine in ages.

I did play them at my arcade but not as nearly as much as I played the other games.

Now Sonic Spinball, that, I played a lot of.

At least until I can do something better...
Pfft, Kirby's Pinball Land. (Ok nevermind it's the best pinball game but whatever)

I had Revenge of the Gator. I played that game a lot when little. It was awesome.

Much better than the NES pinball.

There's also Pinball Quest... But while interesting enough that game has so many wrong things that make it quite ridiculous. Namely balancing issues and some boards being terribly unfair and luck-based, and an insane penalty for losing (go back to the begining of the previous stage with power cut to half, which can result in instantly losing again out of bad luck). The final boss can be ridiculously easy as well, but considering the previous stage is hell, it's for the better.

As for physical pinball machines... They were rare to begin with, but I'd play them. Didn't care much about them.

I used to play pinball a lot I was never very good at real machines. Too expensive to keep practicing, and I could only play on vacations or shopping trips because there were no public pinball games in our village, AFAIK.

As for computer games, I had some Epic Pinball games, Pin-Bot for NES (much better than Pinball ), Pinball Arcade (extended version of Pinball Dreams with the 4 hacked tables), Pinball Fantasies, and Psycho Pinball. Plus that 3D Pinball Space Cadet game that came with Windows XP.

I love to play pinball and I even two pinball machines in my basement, Hot Hand and Big Guns. Hot Hand was made in 1979 and is a pretty basic machine, there's no music and the amount of targets to hit is a lot less than what you would find in a pinball machine today. Big Guns is a bit more modern as it was made in 1987 and it features music, a lot more targets and gimmicks than Hot Hand, and it even gives you the opportunity to play with three balls at once if you do things correctly.

My interest in pinball comes mostly from my dad. Instead of playing video games my dad would spend hours playing pinball, The Hot Hand machine actually means a lot to my dad since he and a friend (who has since passed on...) used to play it all of the time in college.

I used to play that Pinball game that was hidden as an easter egg in Word 97. That was when I was still running on Windows 98.

I should really look around for some Pinball games. It seems like I missed a lot there.

The 21st Century pinball games for Amiga are some of the best around; however, stay away from Pinball Mania... that one sucks =/

But definitely go for Dreams, Fantasies, Illusions, and Slam Tilt... those are some of the best pinball computer games ever =D

Paulguy's Post configuration
I think my cousin had an Epic Pinball demo disk when I was younger. I didn't get much opportunity to try to make it work, because he was afraid I was going to break his computer or something. It needed more conventional memory I guess, I forget.

I'm not really much of a pinball person, but I loved to play the SMB3 pinball machine at the local rollerskating place. Until it broke.

Monster Bash and Medieval Madness were two of the finest pinball games I ever played, and a lot of people seem to agree. Too bad they were also two of the last full-size machines Williams ever produced (the very last two being half-size "Pinball 2000" pinball/video hybrids).

I used to play one of those a ton until the place with it disappeared.

Seems like they don't like sticking around :/

The only Pinball I played was the Pinball that came bundled with Windows. Don't think I've ever played a real pinball machine.
