I also checked it out on Tom's Hardware, and the benchmarks it was running were almost exactly even (up to a coin toss, basically) versus some like, $240 Intel processor.

Including shipping, plus a $10 headset, and not counting the $35 mail in rebate, the price was a bit over $500. Biggest purchase I've ever made.

It's still processing, so I should get it after this weekend, I guess. Waiting for this is gonna be torture, but I guess I can prepare by backing everything up.. Again.

Thanks for the advice though.

If it weren't for this thread, I'd have an Intel Motherboard, incompatible RAM, and god-knows what other issues.

If it's anything like mine, you'll also need 4/8 pins for the cpu only.

Yeah, I need an 8pin for my CPU. I went a little hardcore with the PSU I got, because I want it 1) to last, 2) to actually work for if I make a new computer in the next five years.

Here's what I got. It comes to $65 after I do the mail-in rebate. Kinda awesome, considering it was originally a $120 PSU...

On some mobos you can plug a 4-pin connector into the 8-pin, like on mine. It works just fine, although I wouldn't try it with more extreme setups power-wise.

As for 24pin, unless that's an extra set of pins beyond even the already extra set of pins, most PSUs... should be able to handle that.

By "plug a 4-pin into an 8-pin," do you mean just one 4 pin into an 8 pin connector? Which side of the 8 would you plug it in to?

I'm not sure if it works on all motherboards, but it's keyed so you physically cannot plug it into the wrong side.

It was a weird spot on mine--the higher four pins.

I've been running 4pin with my 1090T BE, which is basically AMD's latest processor since May. This thing runs smootly, cool as hell. Don't think it's gonna blow up.

I've never seen any problem with it (also, the eight pin had a plastic cover over half of it. Couldn't mess it up)

Honestly, unless your processor is doing some serious overclocking or is seriously powerful, the 4-pin should take it. Of course you got a new PSU, which is also fine. Even I will eventually get a new one, even though, ironically, my more efficient mobo/CPU combo probably, if anything, take less power from my PSU.

As I suspected:

No problem using all 8 pins, But not required unless you plan on pushing your E8500 above 125 to 130 Watts. I have p965-DQ6 with E6400 @ 3.2 and had 4 Pin then switched to 8Pin (changed PSU) - No difference.
