Yup, 4GB RAM. And it's a 2.5GHz Quad.

Trouble is, if I go for EXACTLY what he has, it'll cost me a little more. I don't have speakers. Mine are built in to the monitor.

But his monitor is so f'ing awesome.

My new roommates really love NSMB Wii, so we've been playing through that too.

I really, really hope you get some fun with all the internets they put into 3DDGH. Hell, there's even a character that ends every sentence with ", desu", among a billion other internet memes.

Its not top of the line but at least it can play games on low to mid settings.

Actually, a lot of premade machines really aren't that expandable.

Especially the older ones; doesn't seem to have changed much in recent years, but a lot of the pre-made ones have really weird form factors that aren't easily matched.

Well, provided I have £100 spare after getting my computer, I'm getting that monitor

EDIT: I just reached the sex scene in Mass Effect and I have to wonder, how the hell did people find that offensive? There wasn't even a NIPPLE in there. It was essentially what you see in game ALL THE TIME, just with a different texture.

I'm definately going for that Compaq PC. It is amazing and well worth it. ATI 5850, which comes with a different Steam download, depending on the maker. If I go with HIS, I get COD6. Kinda pointless, considering that I've beaten it on the PS3 and I've never been bothered to play enough to even Prestige once. I'll keep my current monitor for a while and allow my funds to get bigger again. I don't desperately NEED a new monitor, but it would be nice to get one. I also need a new mouse. The current mouse is so old that it is starting to double-click when it don't want it to. The older mouse only clicks half the time.

I wish I could combine the two. I'd end up with one good mouse

Putting everything together from scratch is not always that easy. Buying a premade and upgrading the video card and/or RAM is pretty simple, though. So if thats what he can do, then so be it.

Putting together a computer is actually lots easier than it sounds.

I mean, even I could do it, and it sure saves a lot of money.

And he could always ask someone he knows to help him, I'm sure he should know someone who knows this stuff.

Just make sure you get somebody who knows their stuff to vet everything before you buy. You don't want to end up with incompatible RAM, an Intel mobo with an AMD CPU, or *cough* not the right cables in your power supply. The rest is just basically plugging it what goes where. Honestly, the thing I struggled with most was the damn power LEDs and stuff for the front of my case.

True, and I'd be glad to help him out like I did someone else

And the motherboard manual usually has a diagram of what wires go where for the power, reset, and LEDs. Without it, its a guessing game unless your motherboard is labelled clearly.

Or, instead of messing about by ordering from multiple websites with multiple delivery days and then piecing it all together, I could get that f'ing awesome Compaq. Which is cheaper.

By the way, you linked me to an American website that ships to America, Canada and China. Not the UK. Nor would I want to pay the outrageous overseas delivery fees even if they DID ship to the UK

Does anyone like the Sega Saturn soundtrack to Earthworm Jim 2 over the SEGA and SNES versions? I don't. I just beat EWJ2 on the SNES.

A google search netted a few results for UK tech retailers:
