I just played a few games with early 2-gate push beginnings, to mixed effect. I still have a lot of difficulty keeping macro up while my forces move out and engage, though.

I've perfected my Void Ray rush strategy to the point where I haven't lost for about 8 matches. I'm now ranked #1 in my bronze league division. Anyone know how the rankings work and if/when I'll be bumped to silver? I need to rework my strategies so I can actually stand my ground in the silver league.

You're going to regret rushing a base with just Void Rays Orlandu. Higher tier players will know how to counter them. Every unit has a weakness and if a player is able to exploit it, you're done for. Its a good idea to I send a unit to protect the Void Ray from its weakness. Void Rays are powerful yes, but useless if they get wiped out. I reccomend a couple of Colossus for ground support and a few Scouts or Carriers for air support and maybe some stalkers since they can attack both ground and air units as well as a few Archons for extra measure, if you have extra resources to spare to make Templar. You could also get some Zealots out there too if you wish.

If you are fighting a Protoss player, its a good idea to take out the Pylons first, then the Probes and finally the Nexus. This ensures that the oppenent won't be able to build anymore units and you can take him/her out with ease. I may still be pretty inexperienced with the game, but I've picked up a trick or two. =P

Probably the most deadly asset of Starcraft II is that, unlike Starcraft and Brood War, you are able to control more than twelve units at a time. This makes combat more dangerous as you can make all of your units focus an attack on an enemy unit or structure and potentially take it out in one or two hits.

Oh trust me, I know it won't be that effective once I get to a higher league. The trick of it is that I have 3 void rays while most people are still working on building their base to start massing their army. I put my Stargate as close to their base as possible. They have little to no defense and I can take out their primary base in about 10 seconds since the Void Rays weapons are upgraded. If I'm playing Zerg, I just take out the queen first. By the time I take out their base, I have another Void Ray and proceed to take out the rest of their buildings or units.

My 3 Void Rays can take out 4-5 stalkers, marines, etc. Even if I lose one, I have that other one already on the way and I keep producing them. I know its not a perfect strategy, but so far its work and I'm altering it. The past few games, I've walled my base off with pylons and survived a 3-4 zealot rush long enough to take out their base before they took out mine.

Except rushes don't always work. Let's say a Zerg player was preparing for a hydra rush, your void rays come in? They're gonna get spine'd down and then either they win, or it becomes a long defensive game.

Stimmed Marines and Medivacs take out charged Void Rays with ease. Of course you will need to have some of 'em, but two Barracks, one with a Reactor and the other one with a Techlab, can be already enough to get those Rines in no time. And those buildings plus addons are very cheap, too. Get the Combat Shield upgrade, and as Void Rays are quite espensive and have not the fastest tech tree, those can go down quickly.
I also lose to numbers of Void Rays, but as I'm in Bronze only and it usually happens when I do _not_ scout them in time, like having Marauders, 1-2 Ghosts, Banshees and other stuff but no Marines.

If you have 4 or more gas, just build them anyway, but with Zealots or Dark Templars these CAN be deadly; just Void Rays is will not be enough in upper leagues, unless you have like 20 of them and probably charged up in no time maybe. This is the reason why I like SC. Massing one unit type usually only works against inexperienced players, but mixing them is great. A Mothership also dies pretty fast if alone, although I have to admit the counter units are quite strict and effective in SC2, even more than in SC1.

Interesting is also how many Bronze players don't seem to protect their main building with an anti-air structure. Many are new, of course, but if you are Terran, two or three Medivacs with Tanks and Marauders can slow down the enemy a lot, while you expand or send a bigger troop to the ramp for distraction. But if you fail sometimes like me, it's time to quote a Marine which gets attacked: "We're screwed."

I'll record one of my replays and post it for ya'll to see. I just lost a match during lunch, but thats because they ran a Reaper rush and I should have gone for his units instead of finding the rest of his base. He took out my last pylon before I could get his supply depots. All he had left was reapers, so I could have taken them out and then finished his depots off. Still ranked #1 in my division though.

Depends.

Most experienced player I've seen tend to go for workers, since they screw up their economy really bad.

Of course, destroying the sole Pylon that powers all unit producing obviously is better to do.

But yeah, I'd rather destroy workers to be honest. As a protoss player, I'd just get Warp Gates and a proxy pylon after screwing up their economy. Even in the late game, its a pretty easy GG.

EDIT: also, you guys need to watch this match. its ridiculous

I haven't really played online yet (except UMS) but to be honest it seems you can simply slaughter Bronze league with a 4-gate Push.

Can't talk much must play more Starcraft 2.

I have dark circles under my eyes and I look like a crack addict.

But seriously.

Couldn't have asked the game to be better.

I finished the campaign in about 5 days.

I am now on my second run through trying to get all the achievements. I am currently at 875.

When I log in to battle.net I was my email address Dryden88@gmail.com , but in multi-player it is just Dryden. Email me or try to friend me in game if you want to play a match just tell me you are from Jul and know my wife. I am really amateur and it shouldn't be hard to beat me.

Does anyone know why in the hell they had to make tosh Jamaican? So what he is black. They could have made his accent the same.

"Little Jimmy Rayner."

Well, last night my Void Ray Rush stopped working due to the fact everyone I played was rushing something that was faster (ala Zerglins, Zealots, or Reapers).

Today I played a quick match during lunch, attempting a new strategy. Unfortunately, it was a 4 player map so I had to go searching. But these maps provide larger starting base areas so I was able to sneak a probe in and make a Gateway before they saw me. I got 3 Zealots out but lost them when he found my base. He had 5 Zealots and proceeded to take out my Gateway. He got it down but not before I got some cannons up and locked him in his base. I was able to get another Gateway up and then 2 and started producing enough Zealots. Once I had about 6 I took them to pester his probes which stopped his income long enough for me to get the edge. He got a Colossus out by that time I had taken out his base and most of his probes. He gave up after that.

And of course during this map, I was called "the gayest bitch" he'd ever seen... Some people don't like losing. For my efforts in this match, I am now in the silver league, rank 4.

The video is not too shabby about your tactics, though. But although I am only in a Bronze league (won 10 out 20 games here) it's interesting how neither you nor your opponents sends a scout Probe to check out what the enemy's doing.

Your enemy also could have just went to your base with his 4,5 Zealots - it would be at least very close in completion of your first cannon. And photons also are not that cheap, as already in SC/BW.
I am Terran and got killed by some Void Rays once or twice, but as said - because Marines work really well against Zealots and even not too many Stalkers in SC2 plus Void Rays (!), I would just go crazy with them (stimmed of course, and the shield upgrade as well, soon) if I see an early Stargate and more or less expect Void Rays. Mixing them with Viking works well, alone those just suck against VRs. So it is just a question of skill here. Your opponent just a-clicked your base, not even caring what you have.

I don't want to question your tactics at all, but if your opponent had crushed your wall, you would have been pretty much done

On this map and another one (the space one where you're only separated by air), I don't bother sending a scout probe because I want to get minerals as quickly as I can. On the 4 player or 4 space maps, I send a scout right away to find where they are and to make sure they aren't doing a cannon rush.

I actually had someone attempt to cannon rush me. They didn't build cannons in back of their pylons and I already had my stargate up next to their base. I just brought my 1 void ray down and killed his pylons and zealots from behind. My other rays were still coming in and by the time my first took out the cannons, I had 3 rays and proceeded to take out his base.

That's the problem with all non-zergling rushes (YAY ZERGLING SPEED), they can leave your base VERY open for an attack when you run out of units, proper micro is key there
